And who have you seen?

my first proper gig was the Jam i think.

i wanted to go see Alvin Stardust when i was about 12/13 with my friend - but my stepdad wouldn't let me go. i was absolutely gutted at the time. he was one of those nobs who looked down on anything popular, not just pop music. absolutely anything.

i'm going to see Wave67 tomorrow night.

they're not famous or owt, they're mates of mine, but boy do they make a lot of noise! :D

Me too. he was old.
this morning i've been listening to;

Willie Nelson
Toots & the Maytals
Etta James
Motorhead
and Morrissey

I've seen all them as well.

no george formby though

I'd love to see Toots and the Maytals, I can imagine the atmosphere being amazing :)

if I could be arsed to think about all the gigs I'd been to, my list would be pretty long - does that mean I need to take more drugs?

first gig I went to I was 11.

oh... is this an easy dig at cheesy?

so is Sas on drugs as well?

what's so bad about being able to remember loads of gigs?
twas but a cheeky little aside to cheesy that actually said more about me and my memory or lack of it than it did about her if you chose to read it in context rather than assuming I'm one of the cheesy bashers, which I ain't.

It was actually a complement on her ability to remember stuff despite being a bit of a (self admitted) caner, from another self admitted caner for whom much of the last 15 years is a wee bit blurry

save your fire for the likes of firky eh;)

I'd love to see Toots and the Maytals, I can imagine the atmosphere being amazing :)

I saw them in a club and they were fantastic, Toots had a purple and gold suit, they were on it, the crowd was up for it.
couple of years back at Glastonbury, not so much. There had been tampering from somewhere (labels, management - who knows maybe Toots) the songs were drawn out and sluggish, they lacked any fire and it was raining.
We were about to bail when, just like that, he stormed through Monkey Man in two minutes, no arsing around. It was great, like a little window into the previous time i'd seen them. but that was it. I think he brought on some guest or other to noodle away.

I'll try and do this in order of bands seen but I'm sure to forget a lot of festival acts/support bands I've passed by and I'm not including performances at the Brit Awards or Live 8 or anything as that doesn't count.

See this all very well for you young-uns, scraper but i can't remember all that kind of stuff.
I noticed there were duplicates in your list, mind - Here it is edited to people I've seen, which I have to say is an easier way to do things than remembering stuff.
There were a few I've deleted that I wasn't sure about as well - clearly they'd made quite an impression

yeh apols for the duplicates... I tried to get rid of most. :o

Seems odd actually that the majority of bands I've seen are all in the nineties before I was living in London and working at labels. I just don't have that much interest as I used to have in seeing absolutely EVERYTHING and staking out a festival main stage like I used to :(:D

cheesy - never thought I'd say this, but you obviously need to take more drugs if you can remember all of those gigs.

off your list I have vague recollections of seeing beck at some point, but no clue where, same with bjork - maybe phoenix festival in the mid 90's some time, I've also got a feeling bowie played there too and I was half listening for a bit.

saw REM properly in my brief moshpitting / crowd surfing indie kid days, plus loads of the britpop bands who's names i now forget.

why would one take drugs at gigs? I usually go to them sober although did see jamiroqui sloshed in cardiff a few years ago when i reviewed him for the big issue - mistake that!. I started going to gigs when i was 13, and yes, my first biggie was Nirvana at the point depot when i was a nipper of 14! The Grove was the name of the disco in Dublin where the grungeheads hung out, and i was drinking a lot of vodka back then. And never kissing boys. Nirvana did just did that special show at dublins point depot - lots of big acts grace the depot and the point, irelands two top venues, and no, i cant remember much of the gig but yes,i am proud to have seen em so stick that firky in yer pipe and smoke it :p

freespriti - i cant remember every single gig i ever been to, but i've also been to Glastonbury, so thats how i caw paul mc cartney/ david bowie,/and a few others there for example. Highlight for me was PJ harvey back in around 2003 wailing like a banshee in her lipstick pink stilettos. Around the time of Um hum her.

Dublin, when I grew up, me and my mates were mad into music, absolutely lived for it. I have actually seen about four Doors tribute bands - The Australian Doors, LA Doors, and Manzarek Doors as well as the 20th Centiry Doors (which featured Ray and Ian Astbury on vocals - that was 2004 I think) - pity about the Aussie doors ending - they were great!

Just remembered there that I also saw the following live too:
Underworld
Smashing Pumpkins (where a girl was killed from the mosh at the front in 1996 - the band left the stage after two songs, it was a very sad gig - that was before my Irish A levels)
Supergrass (Dalymount park, in Dublin 1994)
Red Hot chilli peppers (same as above - they were awful)

:)

Oh blimey. I don't expect anyone to read my list, but it'll be interesting for me to try and make one!
