And what are your weaknesses?

ChrisFilter

Like a boss.
Anyone ever managed to say anything good when asked this in an interview?

I came up with some lamentable bollocks this morning. It was genuine, but, christ.

God that question !

I am very tempted to say the next time that I always end up shagging the bosses wife or something along those lines .......

"I can't help my right foot tapping when bullshitting. Anyway, I find it hard to stop working, I'm too much of a perfectionist, my oral sex technique on my managers is too good" TAPTAPTAPTAPTAP

isn't compulsory to say, "well I am SUCH a perfectionist" or some such shite.

how did it go anyway?

Really good, I think. Well, she said it went really well. I'm underqualified and have no industry experience but she knew that prior to the interview and doesn't see that as a problem.

I think my weaknesses were taking criticism too personally at times and getting carried away with an idea without taking on board all considerations.. which are honest, at least.

1. I have a tendancy to work too hard to the detrement of home life.

2. I am stubborn determined and hate failure to such an extent that I sometimes stick with a project when it might have been better to close it down and start on a new one.

hows them, plenty more ..

The jist is I had a problem that was not really a problem but I am aware of it and can now manage it.

I think the key is NOT to say something that is a strength really, because that is a bit transparent. Nobody falls for it. Instead, you need to show that you understand where your weakness comes from and how you mitigate for it. Also, give the flip-side strength.

For example: a strength of mine is my ability to see the big picture [something I will already have pushed in the interview]. However, the attendant weakness with this is that it is easy to miss details. Because I am very aware that this is a tendency of mine, I work doubly hard to make myself look at every detail. Also, I look to partner with detail-orientated people who will complement my skill-set.

A funny anecdote: I once asked a new graduate interviewee this question and it was obvious that despite its standard nature, they hadn't prepared for it. They looked all flustered for a bit and then blurted out, "Er, my spelling!"

"your sweetness
is my weakness
(yeah girl)"

EDIT: Fuck you hiccup. Fuck you in the ear

they ask that question to see how well you can bullshit....

you're supposed to give a politically correct answer

'I cant tell you that in case I am called to save the planet against an evil intergalactic warlord - you might tell him. Sorry, planet is at stake here, I'm sure you understand' :)

I hate that question.

Now I just say sometimes I probably talk to much at times :o :D On the positive side that means I work up a good rapport with staff.

*vomits*

it would depend on the role i was being interviewed for. i don't have a generic set of "weaknesses" i can trawl out as directed

A friend of mine when asked this in an interview just said, "um i don't know, i suppose sometimes I can be quite lazy".

She didn't get it.
