Anarchist studies Network conference 4-6th sept

Oh, come on, Imposs! If Doc Attica's conference at Loughborough doesn't belong here, then nor does any SPeegyGeeeBee event.

Various anarchs and curious visitors nattering away.... various SPeegyGeeeBeers and curious visitors nattering away. FFS, what's the bleedin' difference?

JHE,

I wasn't trying to suggest that it shouldn't be on P/P. Just wondering why it wasn't in the Announcements section. :p

The announcements section is supposed to be just for announcements, not for comment/discussion/piss-taking. I know some of us sometimes break the rule, but unfortunately the powers that be sometimes enforce it. If someone wants a meeting to be discussed, this forum is a better place to put the announcement, I reckon.

And I think Attica just wants to see his name in lights in every section of the Urban 75 bulletin boards. We'll have to agree to disagree.;)

Anyway, he'll be chuffed that as long as this thread goes on the post will be bumped to the top of the pile.

fuck all this anyway, fucking anarchist studies network! :D

lol me to the moon and let me lol amongst the stars

Wait no, what am i saying - what we really need is MORE BOOKS on DUMB SHIT and how it differs from even DUMBER SHIT! Theres certainly not a gaping fucking hole where 'how we put this bollocks into practice' should be, oh no! We just need more theory!

WHO WANTS TO JOIN MY ANARCHIST READING CIRCLE ???!!!!

Can i join your organisation tax?:)

Look at this - lots of great theory organised despite the so called 'organised' groups!!:D:hmm:
I see a lot of theory and history but SFA on anything going on right now, what's the point in that? If I wanted to learn more about Haymarket or Spain, I'd read a book about it.

Re the conference. I've just found out that registration closed at the end of May.
I'll go down the pub.

Hia Frampton I believe the conference organisers (like most other conference organisers) are accepting late registrations. If you contact Ruth Kinna at [email protected] - she'll be able to sort that out. I believe most of the subsidised accommodation for delegates has gone, If you need somewhere to stay over she may be able to advise suitable places, and I know some people down there are helping by offering spare rooms, sofas etc.

@ Tax

Yeah i got the impression it didn't go as planned. it didn't match the email that's for sure, these things do happen though.

i can't remember who its by, but it's a good read and just as you describe!

I have no idea why they skipped the warm up, it is a good point. We were struggling for the connection on the way home as it goes. I didn't meet one Greek person!

I half expected to bump in to you as it goes considering the nights, erm, theme.

i may well be attending your night :)

well yeah... I'm not that sort of anarchist for sure, but definitely someone organsing an explicitly anarchist rave-up piqued my interest (do we hear the sound of ringing cash registers?:D) but they released the second location way too late and there was no chance we could be bothered.

Yes. These meetings on Anarchism outside of the "movement" certainly exist. They are often more refreshing and less predictable than smokey pub back rooms.

One about eighteen months ago hosted by the Berwick-upon-Tweed Trades Council. The morning given over to Anaracho-syndicalism with me in the afternoon on "Too Many Chiefs: Not Enough Anarchists". They were great company and very generous with the beer in the evening.

who are you....

are you the AFNAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!

Thanks for that brilliant insight Paul. Perhaps you should try some politics rather than obscure conspiracy theories then you might have a purchase on the real world.

But that's just the problem with the 9/11 loons - they are sadly not obscure. Indeed many of their public meetings and events outnumber radical events 2 or 3 to 1.

Having read your analysis of the BNP in issue 2 of Mayday, I don't need any lectures from you on the 'real world'. Indeed the speed with which other members of the Mayday team are disassociating themselves from your anti-fascist 'praxis', suggests that you Doctor, need to heal thyself!.

You know nothing of the real world Paul - sad but true.

Yes they are obscure - they are nothing to do with the class struggle, nobody comes across them in everyday life.

You are being hyper prattish - again, (following your thread about a Mayday test website on matb). Anti fascism is a wide and interesting subject - you hardly know anything about it and you needed somebody else to help you write that pathetic short anti fascist piece in Black Flag - hardehar har. That would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

You misunderstand - Attica is what is going on now, and the event is saved by his presence.

Does he do weddings and bar mitzvahs? :)

Which issue, please?

Incidentally I saw off your pathetic (lack of) criticisms before about the anti fascist article - you are small paul fry :p

MAYDAY had some great editorial discussions yesterday and there was a high degree of political coherance and forward planning to progress the MAYDAY project:D:cool::cool:

Thanks for that mate. I'll give it ago.

Minutes of the Mayday Editorial Committee meeting - 10 July 2008

Comrade Attica opened the meeting by thanking Comrade Attica for attending at such short notice.

Comrade Attica was reelected unopposed to the posts of Editor, Editor-in-Chief, Chief Theorist and Leader, Editorial Adviser and Consultant.

There was detailed discussion of Comrade Attica's latest article on praxis. Comrade Attica agreed with Comrade Attica's comments on Comrade Attica's article. Comrade Attica proposed a motion noting that Comrade Attica's article was a seminal contribution to the Theory of Praxis - and developed a fuller understanding of the dialectical unity in motion of Attican Praxis and Praxical Atticanism. The motion was passed unanimously.

Before adjourning to the pub, Comrade Attica agreed to write a note to Comrade Attica inviting Comrade Attica to remind Comrade Attica to write another article for the next issue of Mayday. Provisionally it was agreed that the next article could be a review of Comrade Attica's seminal article on praxis.

I am your faithful squire, Don Attica.

That's me on the donkey - and don't think I've forgotten that island you promised me.

You should post up a picture of Pinky and the Brain:D Of course, I'm the Brain and you are Pinky.

"Pinky and the Brain Pinky and the brain - one's a genius the others insane"

Pinky: Gee, Brain, what are we going to do tonight?
Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world!

Ungrateful, Thanks for your advice. Myself and a comrade from Manchester got ourselves registered. Look out for us. We're the guys at the table closest to the bar.

This thread is pure gold. Thanks guys.

I'm not paying 135 to listen to people talk about anarchism. i can get that for free in the albert most nights.

oh god, larry o'hara is going to be speaking. fortunately it appears to be on the least barking of his favourite topics.

Come, come Bluestreak. We paid nothing like £135. That price includes full board and all the grub you can eat. We'll be dossing down in the van and relying on Attica to bring us out the odd cheese sandwich.

I thought it the conference was *only* £25 -- obviously not as cheap as the albert, but not bad value....
