An android phone the size of a iPhone 5?

So I am starting to socialise my OH of getting off the iPhone train.

We were both iPhone, but never had new ones, only refurbs or secondhand, at least 3 models behind the newest. I switched to android last year and apart from a few tiny niggles haven't had an issue. And the difference between having a brand new phone from a secondhand one has outweighed any of that.

Oh is currently on a iPhone 5s that it's on its 4th battery replacement and so I'm trying to get him used to the idea of me buying him a new android for Christmas. He's kind of on board, but the fact that they all seem to be that much bigger than the 5s is putting him off slightly.

I actually think he would get used to a bigger phone, as I did. But what are the phones that I could look at that are nearest the 5s size. Around £200?

Phones have grown and you're fighting against the tide. As you say, I think he would get used to it.

Samsung A40 is relatively small, but not iPhone 5 small.

Or a Pixel 3a for a better phone that's a wee bit bigger.

Neither of those are £200ish though. Maybe used.

That's a good point that I'd missed. Maybe the XZ1 is cheaper if you can find one...

Sony are usually a decent bet for smaller, 'compact' Android phones to be fair. I've never much liked their customised version of Android though. I haven't seen a new one for a couple of years, however, so who knows.

I just got a Moto g7 power for £160. It is a little on the large side but the screen is great. I am liking it so far.

I'm on an Honor 9 which I really like. Its a year old and hasn't degraded at all, either in performance or battery life. I'm tempted to just get the same as then when he has problems (he isn't the most techy guy in the world) at least I will know what to do.

It is bigger, but isn't huge.
