An American Werewolf in London

VMboy wanted to see a scary film for Halloween so I nearly got him this as I remembered really enjoying it when it came out.

Then I saw that it was an 18

Surely it's not that scary?

It bloody fucking is.
The change scene alone.

Again - classic film.

Not mentioned yet - The scene in the porn cinema where he meets the undead corpses of his victims and they are helpfully suggesting ways he can kill himself.

:D

Fucking great film, def one of my top 5 and has been for years!! Who spotted a very young Rik Mayall in the pub?
Saw it at the flicks when it came out - still one of my favourites for all the reasons everyone's mentioned so far

Rik Mayall was one of the chess players iirc ?

My wife's favourite film (despite her hating horror in general) - I still haven't managed to watch it all the way through yet. :o

The spoof Sun/News of the World telly ads in it are good. 'The Thing' remake came out around the same time didn't it? Golden Age of Latex Rubber FX.

I saw it again last week in the cinema.Really enjoyed the retro details like Lucozade in glass bottles with foil wrappers and the police driving Rovers. Did anybody else notice an unusual Jewish theme running through out? The main character is Jewish (which is mentioned in the hospital when the nurse notices he is circumcised) and the scene with the Nazi's attacking his family is obviously just expressing his worst fears. But there are other subtle references like blood lines (I know this is normal for werewolf films) and the pentagram in the pub is not completely dissimilar to a Star of David. I dunno maybe I'm just reading too much into it but keep an eye out for it if you watch it again.

:hmm: Never really noticed that before :hmm:

I think that's overanalysing tbh. It just may happen to be directed by someone Jewish. And nobody Jewish would attempt to associate a pentagram with a star of david.

i don't like it. sorry folks.

Damn it. I thought we had cracked the Urban thing of there never being a film everyone likes :D (Not that it would be in any way shape or form good to have a film everyone liked, it would probably be well lowest common denominator, mind you, I bet there are films that people slate on here, but if you went on a more mainstream forum, everyone says yeah great)

True, this is quite a negative place, but shall we take the smug condescending view that Sarahluv doesn't like it because she doesn't understand it, and strike it from the record?

I love the part where he is trying to get arrested in
Trafalgar Square
"Queen Elizabeth is a man! Prince Charles is a faggot! Winston Churchill was full of shit! Shakespeare's French! "

I am going to have to rewatch this one after all these snippits. I'd forgotten some of those lines!

That is if I can stop Himself drooling over Ms Agutter.
What is it about her and men of a certain age? :hmm:

Exactly! It's as if they are obliged to drool, or something. Same with that Susan George. Weird :hmm:

I loved this scene too - I just chuckle at it now but I remember pissing myself with laughter the first time I watched it. It's no good - I'm gonna have to watch it again.
