Amsterdam

I haven't been to Amsterdam since the early nineties. Is the milkweg ( milky way ) still open. I have some great memories of that place ( and lots of moments that I have forgotten ! )

Anyone mentioned Vondel Park. Nice green open space down the southern end of the city, which on a sunny weekend has all sorts going on and lots of 'interesting' folks to see.

Leidseplein, touristy square, but nice to sit and have a beer or coffee and people watch, also Rembrandt Plein. Rijksmuseum, huge building down near Vondel Park, very good history of NL.

Someone also mentioned the Joordan area, check out Lindengracht for the market mentioned (l lived on that road for a while). Some nice bars and restaurants round there. Just wander around the Prinzengracht, lovely canal road and marvel at the architecture, bars, boats etc.

I'm off tomorrow for a week.

(Going to Rotterdam though not Amsterdam as brother lives there)
Prob. do a day trip to Dam though :)

We want to stay somewhere really central pref not more than £100 a night-any ideas?

There's a few budget hotels along Raadhuisstraat. Very central. 10 min walk to the station. The hotel I usually stay at was fully booked for two people when I tried about 2 weeks ago (Clemens Hotel) so I've decided to go to a nicer hotel in the financial district.

But there are others in Raadhuisstraat which I haven't tried. Give them a shot. Fairly cheap, but not quite 'hostel' - which is the key thing to avoid IMO unless you want to share a dorm with a load of American EuroTrippers getting pissed and stoned at all hours.

We're going tomorrow and still don't have anywhere to stay! Aaaaargh!

We are hoping to stay near Vondelpark... but someone else suggested Jordan?

Help, eeeeks and all that!

x x

Just popping on from Rotterdam.

MrsDK....PM GoneCoastal. He should be about tonight and he helped organise where we stayed before. It was not that far from the centre and clean and friendly. He will prob. have the info. still. I don't.

Have a lovely time :)

Had an amazing time! We booked a place to sleep from the airport it was alright, nothing flash but all we wanted was a cheap bed. After the first two nights we found somewhere else in the 9 streets area which was lush... in grannies house kind of way :D

Best birthday yet! x x
