Amir Khan

Totally agree. This lad has a good family who are keeping him humble.

Family seems good but not his mates. They trashed the hotel suite they were staying in a few months back in Cardiff. AK was up for breakfast at 7.00am the morning after the fight though. Mrs Biffo broke the bad news to him that it didn't start until 7.30am - so he sat and read the papers for half an hour.

this is the reason that i hardly ever watch boxing now, too many hand picked fights, i have started watching ufc the fights tend to be a lot more exiting and the fighters better matched
what a ridiculous statement.

boxing is alive and well... people think only of the 'marquee' fighters, what about the bread and butter stuff? week in week out, boxing is more than just househoold names etc.

as for Khan, he learned more last night, or should have, than in his entire career thus far, he needed that, a wake up call...

De La Hoya won his first world title in less fights, Khan is a long way off the top, but if he learns from this as he should he'll take it to the next level.

I hope he does. it's gonna be hard work for him, going up the levels, but let's see.

anyone see the Gatti fight? I'm pleased he's retired now, don't like seeing anyone take beatings.. he's given the sport some of the greatest fights ever so time to get out and concentrate on family. <takes hat off to Gatti> thanks!

Agree with you 100%. Gatti is rightly much loved, but it is time he retired. In fact retirement is long overdue - he had no business fighting Mayweather and, really, that beating should have been the end.

Speaking of fighters who are more about action than skill, John Duddy was fighting last night on RTE (RTE now seem to be showing both his and Bernard Dunne's fights live, which is great news for Irish boxing). It was the first time I'd had a good look at him and well, he lived up to his billing.

That is, he is by no means the greatest boxer you will ever see. His defence is frankly poor and he doesnt have what you would describe as silky skills. On the other hand he, really, really comes to fight. I can see why he's so popular. Andy Lee is the better Irish prospect at middleweight though. He has the talent and skill which Duddy lacks and has to try to compensate for with determination.

Here's Lee's fifth fight on youtube:

Here he is nearly decapitating former world champion Carl Daniels in only his eighth or ninth fight:

Gatti - I thought he should have probably took a bow after the Baldomir fight. It wasn't great viewing.

Williams - skimmed through it - was a good fight.

Khan - chin out like Jimmy fucking Hill. Think will have probs when comes up against a puncher. Looked very green in places.

Kermit - some finish.

Anthony Small - unfortunately didn't video it.

Cook - haven't watched it yet

Skelton and Sprott - was never going to be a classic.

btw bumped into Gary Mason the other day.

It was good to see Khan actually having a half decent opponant who he didnt just biff to the floor in the first 3 rounds - very exciting!

I was kind of hoping Limond would win but Khan really came back from the brink - I dont know how they manage to hold it down when theyve been boxed to the floor, some fights you see when someones gone that far theres no coming back, theyre exhausted, disorientated but Khan really seemed to get a hold of himself and carry on  how did he manage it?

Cos Limond didn't have the strength or skill to finish him off. He is only domestic, but it is only domestic competition so Khan was lucky. Anyone better would have destroyed Khan after that.

yeah I really hope he doesn't decide to get in the ring again - the super slo mo for the Gomez's finishing punch    - a real sickener! Great photography though.

We have Hopkins v Wright coming up this weekend. Baldomir v Forrest the week after, Morales the week after aswell as Marquez. And then September is full of some beauties, incl' Witter v Harris, Jermain Taylor and David Haye v Jean Marc Mormeck.

for some people to say boxing aint got nothing worthwhile is way out of touch, and they're just the household names, well... boxing households.

u still training?

Setanta sports coverage of Hatton's fight was .

No adverts! ace.

Setanta's Hatton coverage was surprisingly decent, it was far better than Sky's recent efforts which had as many ad breaks as ITV's free coverage, which takes the piss when HBO and Showtime both show boxing uninterrupted on their premium subscription channels.

Shame Setanta wasn't in widescreen when HBO in the States showed it in widescreen and HD but that may have been the only feed avaliable to international broadcasters.

it was a fix imho , wareen told the scot to stop

And you think a fighter in the biggest fight of his life, having knocked down his opponent and with a chance to make his name is just going to "stop" because Warren tells him to? No chance.

Many fights have been fixed over the years, but they are fixed in advance not most of the way through. If someone was going to fix Limond-Khan they'd want Limond to win anyway.

Not as much as I would like to. I've been to a couple of local gyms and have my eye on joining one full time.

Would love to be training most days tbh.

What about you?

He had that fight won on points but the danger will always be there when you step up several classes as he did.

Superb K.O. aside, it's laughable that one judge had Canelo ahead.

The sixth. Pretty much the round most people thought he'd be in increased danger. He was always going to win the first couple but Canelos strength advantage was due to pay dividends once he realised he could walk Khan down a little, once Khan was throwing the jab and flurries less. The kids a millionaire many times over and appears healthy, i'd have took that 'risk to be great'.
