Amir Khan Pay per view

they were talking about him having a go with nicky cook. which would probably make sense cos cook didn't have half of the punching power of that colombian dude who i think could prolly beat khan every day of the week on that showing.

yeah!
Prescotts looks like he could be a world beater on that performance

Woah.

That's a bit of a surprise (to someone who doesn't follow boxing at all! :o)
His chin'll never stand up

Your chin ain't a muscle.
One of the things that's always proved a little elusive in my understanding of boxing is just what constitutes "having a strong chin".

Is it posible to learn how to take a punch to the head, or develop a 'strong chin', or is it something you're just born with and if your unfortunate to have a 'glass chin' you're boxing success will always be limited, unless you learn to defend really well?

I did quite a bit of boxing when I was a kid. If I got smacked on the chin my head would clear pretty quick.
But I got tapped on my temple a couple of times and I crumpled like a bad souffle.

Whoops.

Since Limmond tho' this was gonna happen sooner or later, but he is only 21 and an unbeaten record means little in my opinion, the true judgment is how well he can come back from this.

Best of luck to him cos he's gonna need it, can't see him personally achieving much at world level unless he changes his style of boxing altogether.

Bye Bye PPV.

Yep, hopefully it may puncture some of the complacency and hype around his camp.

I can't understand why people would hate Khan tbh - he seems a grounded and likeable enough bloke from what I can see. A bit too holy and worthy if anything - far bigger cocks in boxing, let alone sport.

Khan's got some great tools, but he's not boxing with his head on. Whether he can actually learn to defend and box tactically, rather than rely on instinct and punching power, will define if he actually make it at world level. He seems to be making the right noises, but talk's cheap.

Bit of a silly match-up by Warren really - all that caution, and then they pick a puncher like that on his first ppv...

Was the Arthurs/Cook fight good?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

inerestingly many journos are saying this could be the end for amir. he can't take punches.

I don't know if it's the end for him, but I'd say that having a glass jaw is a fairly fundamental flaw for someone choosing boxing as a profession.

Although, that said, the great Tommy 'The Hitman' Hearns (living legend and my favourite fighter of my lifetime) could more than make up for not having the strongest of chins with sheer aggression and a right hand that could stop a freight train. They called Hearns 'The Hitman' for a very, very good reason.

Khna is no Hearns though, and never will be.

Can't say i've seen all his fights, but i get the impression that the knockdowns so far were fairly trivial (if there is such a thing). In a couple of cases they were borderline slips and he was able to recover pretty quickly. This was different, but i don't think he's finished yet.

Shame for Khan, he's a great technical boxer, but his problems are that he just can't take a punch and he's also quite weak in that even thoguh he's got good technique the power of his punches leaves a bit to be desired.

I don't think it's insurmountable, I think he may be boxing in the wrong division and needs more weight to increase his power and toughness.

I Disagree

more like he'd do better if he dropped down a div, less power, thus less chance of getting knocked the fuck out again.

He's at his comfortable weight.

He's just been hyped too much, needs to drop down to being on the undercard a bit more and/or box at domestice level for 2 or so years. He has Murray & Thaxton as immediate (well... take a few months off first) fights to get himself back in and tested.

Time is on his side so we'll see what he's made of.

I think though you look at him he's nearly always a good bit taller than his opponents. He is very lean. I don't think he could drop down a division.

I know many of you aint Khan fans, but I am. And I am well pissed off he's now fighting for sky.
I subsribe to setanta purely for the boxing as most of the world class fights are there.

But Khan now on sky has been put on PPV:confused:

I mean seriously?

who the fuck is gonna pay 10-15 quid to see khan fight some unknown columbian who's neverrr even fought for more then 8 rounds??

Ok so i know you get Arthur on the undercard, but come on?

This is a massive own goal for that prick promoter warren

People don't mind paying that amount of money to see Ricky hatton or Calzaghe but Khan??

maybe in a year or 2 when/if he's a world champ, but not yet. PPV I ask you?

Sorry

Rant over!

Cable - Buy a Eurovox

Sky - Get a decoder and funcard

BT - Wait a while.... the BT Vision box has been hacked and its now down to the fine tuning before a chip is released

;)

PPV - fuck off!

:D

Just watched the footage earlier. That was a complete demolition, Prescott might have punched him out of boxing. It just looked a complete mismatch. I feel a bit for Khan, but that's boxing I guess.

Seeing the left hand that hit Khan's jaw in slow-mo and the way his head was mashed up by that one solid shot makes me glad he was able to get up and walk & talk afterwards cos it was a belter. I'd like to see him give it another go, cos i reckon he's got potential but it must wreck your confidence a bit to go down like that.
