This this is just a kind of vague feeling, but if i was gonna try and back it up it would be:

Typical "English" bands: Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Beatles and PiL Sitting around drinking tea, twirling their mostauches and riding around on their penny farthings... Working on alien noises and strange bleeps of sound.

Typical "American" bands: Big Black, Nirvana, Limp Bizit and Rage Against The Machine. Long, dirty hair, big bellies, rolling around in mud and drinking beer... And all they wanna do is turn it up and rock out.

Maybe I'm succumming to stereotypes a bit too much here...

Heh.

:)

And yeah - I know there are a million exceptions to prove my rule - but I don't care.

But without americans like Howling Wolf , Robert Johnson and Elvis Presley to copy, Rosemary Clooney would have been your biggest star, and the Beatles would have become teachers or Morris Dancers.

Danny and the Juniors say it best:

Rock and roll is here to stay,
It will never die.
It was meant to be that way
Though I don't know why.
I don't care what people say -
Rock and roll is here to stay!
(We don't care what people say,
Rock and roll is here to stay)

Rock and roll will always be,
I'll dig it to the end.
It'll go down in history,
Just you wait my friend
Rock and roll will always be,
It'll go down in history.
(Rock and roll will always be.
It'll go down in history)

So c'mon, everybody rock.
Everybody rock.
Everybody rock.
Everybody rock.
Come on, everybody rock.

Now everybody rock and roll.
Everybody rock and roll.
Everybody rock and roll.
Everybody rock and roll.
Come on, everybody rock and roll.

Rock and roll will always be,
I'll dig it to the end.
Itll go down in history,
Just you wait my friend.
Rock and roll will always be,
It'll go down in history.

If you don't like rock and roll,
Think what you've been missin'.
But if you like to bop and stroll,
Come on down and listen
Let's all start to have a ball -
Everybody rock and roll!
