American Idol and Paris Bennett

Last night's show was interesting.

Chris ruled it for me, he did a great vocal and was easily the best :) I do think he might be too 'rock' to win it though.

Ace really, really stunk - that was painful, and arguing with the band didn't help him  He was worse than Buckie on the night. Writing on the wall for him and Elliott?

Katherine wasn't on form this week - her vocal was all over the place. Paris and Kellie were OK, I prefer Kellie as a rocker, she performed well though her vocal was a bit off at times.

As for Taylor, well he is simply:

The way things are going, I'm thinking Kellie and Taylor and Chris for the top three? I think Katherine and Paris both need to up their game if they are going to make it, but I really hope Chris makes the final.

Next week is Rod Stewart week - I'm wondering if anyone is going to attempt 'Do ya think I'm sexy?' (Don't do it Ace, don't do it :D )

Totally agree that Ace was a big pile of rubbish. Buckie was actually better but I'm glad he's out of the competition. Not sure what's going on with Paris, she seems to slipping into the background a bit. I think they all really need to up their game. Kellie (secret genius) seems to be a big favouritre but I reckon Catherine or Chris will win.

Apparently Taylor and Kellie are way ahead of the others in terms of popularity. They connect more with the viewers, though I'd rather see a good singer win, so I'm hoping Chris hangs in there.

Paris I think has lost some confidence over the last couple of shows. Can't help thinking the 'artist themes' (Stevie Wonder, Queen, Rod Stewart) give the male singers more options than the females. They should have Madonna and Diana Ross weeks to balance things out :D

that is a great idea.... I'd love to see chris trying to rock up "true blue".

Enjoyed last night's show a lot :)

Way to go Paris and Elliott - superb performances and the perfect
comebacks after a couple of dodgy weeks  Major respect to both!

Taylor and Katherine both pretty good too, Kellie vocally the weakest
along with Ace.

Chris sang in tune and in time, but to me he reined himself in too much and
didn't really 'get' the song. Be interesting to see how he approaches next
week, having 'taken Simon's advice' and landed in the bottom 3 as a result :D

It's wide open now I think, anyone bar Taylor could go out next week.

Bye bye Ace!

I also enjoyed last show loads although i would have loved to see a version of 'do you think I'm sexy' by one of the contestants! I thought Paris was amazing last night, so similar to the way she sang in the auditions. Thought it was a bit weird at the end when Simon said that Katherine was way better than the rest-she was very good but on a par with Paris at least. Have no idea why Paris keeps ending up in the bottom three, she da bomb!
Taylor was really good he's growing on me a lot but I wasn't impressed with Eliot or Chris really-thought they were both pretty boring. Kellie is obviously a winner with the fans as got plenty of votes even with that terrible painful at times out of tune number!

I think maybe Paris' vote suffered a hangover from her previous couple of week's performances? I liked her the best this week, she really nailed it for the first time for ages

Simon goes for that airbrushed professionalism thing that Katherine has, which is why he dislikes Taylor's hamminess so much. But Taylor and Kellie have a naturalness in their performances that people respond to, something you can't fake under those conditions.

Dammit Taylor's growing on me too :D

Early through the audition stage the production team played very heavy on the fact that Kellie has a father in prison and her grandfather plays a big part in her life, which the US audience appear to have lapped up. She hasn't been great in the last couple of shows, but she has a firm fan base, which have seen her through to the last six.

I love Chris, he has a great voice, but wish he could find a song that would do him justice. Taylor is extremely popular in the States. I'm hoping for a Chris v Taylor final. This year is much better than last year, or the year before. I got hooked with Fantasia (pause for people to say "Who"?) .....

Good performances from Chris and Elliott this week, especially Chris I thought - the tone of his voice on that number was just superb  Elliott wasn't helped by the band in places on his number, but he seems so much more confident now.

Paris sung pretty well I thought, but what a cliched and bizarre song choice - it's got to hurt her vote. Taylor's song didn't suit his voice really, he was nothing special this week.

I agree with the judges about Katherine, she badly misjudged her performance and song choice - I thought on another night she could've gone out. Bizarrely she seemed to sing worse but do better in the voting

Kellie had the worst night of anyone I can remember - cliched song, bad hair, missed every low note by miles! I noticed before she had a problem with her lower range, so why pick a song that emphasizes the problem?

It wasn't an enjoyable show mostly - that arrogant producer guy seemed to set the tone, and the judges and host didn't help ("you may get some votes from the people who had the volume off"). Not the way to encourage good performances.

It was pretty rubbish wasn't it.. That version of unchained melody was terrible. Thought Paris was her usual good self but reckon she may be the one to go next week after being in the bottom three so many times.
Did you catch what songs they are doing next week? I can't remember. Also caught a headline over someone's shoulder that apparently there's some beef between Paula and Ryan> Apparently he accused her of drinking on the job or something?

I looked the AI website, and next week they are each doing two songs, one from the year of their birth (so lots of 80s numbers I guess!) and one that was a top ten hit this year.

I find Ryan even more annoying than Paula (especially for his comment to Katherine), though she was a bit OTT this week even by her own standards. Anything that helps their ratings will be encouraged I guess, it's just like 'New Faces' in that respect :D

Not that I'm an obsesive american idol fan or anything, but I interpretted Ryan's comment about Katherine getting more votes if the viewers had the volume down to relate not to the period when she was actually singing, but to when the judge's made their bizzarely negative comments.

Yeah that was my initial reaction too, but he carefully worded it to be open to interpretation, which makes it even more sneaky!

No, you're correct I think - his body language to Katherine was sympathetic so I should give him the benefit of any doubt :)

To be fair I think the judges went hard on Katherine because she set herself a target she couldn't reach. Those Whitney songs stand or fall on being technically precise (they are frighteningly difficult pieces) so if you don't quite make it, it's a bit like falling of the beam in gymnastics.

Another patchy show this week - nerves getting to everyone maybe.

Kat had a stinker of a first number (what was she thinking???) but recovered pretty well with the KT song - still lucky to stay I thought.

Elliott had a decent night for me, but he's going home next week, isn't he? Shame I think he has been better than Kat recently.

Paris had a great second song, but was a little off on the Prince one, which surprised me. I'm sure if she'd waited two years she would be a more controlled singer, and that would give her more confidence.

I hated Chris' two songs, and couldn't be bothered to listen to Taylor this week :D

Yeah I felt the same about most of them. Really don't mind who wins now although it's pretty much guaranteed to be a Chris and Catherine final with Eliot out on his ear next week.

 So who is left?

Elliot, Kat, Taylor and Chris.
Taylor to win for me.
I didn't rate Paris that much anyway - her audition was good, but she oversang everything she did after that and the Mary J Bilge thing she did that got her dropped this week was awful.

Elliot is such a cute candidate but I don't think he'll win. Kat is a great singer but I find her kind of boring. The same with Chris. Taylor I find hilarious.

I think I might actually be in love with Taylor.
I want to watch him doing silly dancing forever.

This was won last night. It's not shown here till Friday so I won't spoil it for anyone who doesn't know the outcome.

I stopped watching after Paris got voted off. I expected the singers to improve as the weeks went on, but they mostly got worse  (apart from Ellliott).

A bit disappointed in the shows I watched, cos AI was pretty good in previous years.

I've been watching but have lost a lot of interest for the same reasons. Will of course watch the final though I don't really mind who wins. Bet they drag it out for as long as possible! Hope they don't drag back previous winners. Don't think I could stand hearing Carrie Underwood singing 'Jesus take the wheel' again! Reckon Kat will walk it but would be amazed if Taylor wins
