Got to agree here. Since 'Spaced' there has been bugger all of note in comedy terms from Britain :( The only good thing has been 15 Storeys High and that was almost invisible.
The Thick Of It
Peep Show
Black Books

Unfortunataly there isn't a British show right now that I find very funny. I don't remember mentioning Keeping Up Apearances, I mentioned two highly acclaimed and top rated shows.

But you mentioned excellent US programmes then some of the crapper UK ones.

Can you see how that might not be a fair comparison? The Keeping Up Appearances reference was a reversal of what you did to make a point.

*shrugs*

Indeed. Stick to your films, Reno.

Why don't you recommend me a good recent British comedy show then and prove me wrong instead of making "points".

Frasier is a lot funnier when you realise that the actors who play Niles + Bulldog are actually gay in real life... :D

I think the guy who plays Martin is as well...

Anyway I would recommend Arrested Development.

one joke wonders like Cathering Tate or Little Britain
That's a bit charitable to them isn't it?

Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm are the ones that spring most obviously to mind. CYE especially, because I think it has a lot of Britishness to it in the way Larry is entombed in the catastrophies he creates himself, a la Ted, Partridge, Fawlty, etc.

Mixed on this....

Some good some rubbish.

Although how do you think an American would judge the British sense of humour after watching an episode of Keeping Up Appearances?

:p

Keeping up Appearances is great! Wanna-be snobs arn't culturally specific.

I also like Are You Being Served and Waiting for God

I like Big Bang Theory and Two and Half Men for the current situation comedy run.

For recent movies I liked Enchanted (a spoof of Disney movies) and Superbad (a teen angst comedy). There is a scene in Enchanted where the princess calls for all the forest creatures to come and clean the apartment she is staying in. Unfortunately, she's doing this in the middle of NYC. The animals that show up are typical NYC animals: cockroaches, pigeons, rats..... :D

Most of the Brits I know like The Big Lebowski.

And they all seem to love Bill Hicks, an american comic unknown over here.
