American counting - is it different?

WRT the original post. Coriander is the seed, ground or whole, whereas cilantro is the fresh plant. It makes sense to make that distinction, and I suspect it comes from the influence of Latin American food, where cilantro is preferable in fresh prepared food, like salsas, whereas coriander is used to spice beans, meat, etc.

The leaves are poisonous and taste vile to warn people of that, but do they take any notice? No, they spread them everywhere, tainting good food with the heavy tang of diesel and soap.

I suspect it's smokers who have coated their taste buds with tar who do this, because they have ruined their palates and don't know any better. (((Smokers)))

Well, yes, I'm one of those people. I've got Carolina reapers growing in my garden, so I'd eat anything wouldn't I? ;)
Well, I can't tell you how to live your life. But at least you have the decency to warn others by helping people recognise the name of the poison in other cultures, to save the hapless traveller.

For consistency it'd be 7, if you think thumbs aren't fingers, because you start counting things with zero.

"I miss off the thumbs, obviously, so nothingth finger, first finger, second finger..."

But then if you don't think thumbs are fingers, you probably don't think fish are animals. It's a common delusion it seems. I first came across it in a pub in 1990, before Google. We were playing a drinking game and you had to say a thing on the beat. The category this time was animals. I said trout. Everyone was like "fish aren't animals". Only one other person agreed that fish were animals. I tried to make them see. I appealed to science. I appealed to common sense. I even sang a Frank Sinatra lyric to them. But they wouldn't shift.

And the thing is, I've told that story since and people always say "But fish *aren't* animals".

It's like I'm in a weird dream.
You should suggest a game of animal vegetable or mineral, and keep picking fish. You couldn't lose.
