America/Israel unite in economic terrorism.

I note that you've spectacularly missed the point (again), and appear to believe that the opinion piece you've posted somehow innoculates the US from criticism. Nicely revealing of the shallowness of your concern for anyone except yourself, anyhow.

By the way, the FAQs for this board don't permit C & Ps of material from other sites unless you actually add some comment of your own, which means adding more than just a smilie.

Except in p&p - fridgemagnet ruled on that one already.

How did a thread about Israel turn into a platform for mears to babble on about his brain-dead Reaganomics for the ten millionth time?

I'm not certain yet but I think Mears is saying that donations to Israel, obscene in their magnitude, would continue no matter what the economic deprivation of 37 million Americans. It's an attitude ( not definitely Mear's attitude ) that 37 million deprived Americans need to be made aware of.

the Americans seem to be a more bothered at the news that saudi businesses are running 6 US ports  not that US charities are funding illegal settlements on Occupied Territory in Palestine

They all are parasites, Israelis and Palestinians. They need billions of dollars in handouts to prop up their economies. This happens because the goods and services produced by said economies are substandard.

No reason to pick on the Isrealis and not mention the Palestinians or vise versa.

everything mears says is a consequence of occupation, not the cause of the poor economy, itself a consequence of occupation. you must be fed on a diet of ACPLPI (American Committee for the Preservation of the Land and People of Israel) these are among the people who have denied Palestinians a state for the last 60 years

Olmert-Peres and the Destruction of Religious Judaism

....Amona on Wednesday, February 1, 2006. I could not believe what I was seeing, for the last time I saw anything like it was in the movies of pogroms in Russia and the Nazi storm troopers in Poland during World War II. .... we have become a "Police State." ...those living in Tel Aviv, Ramat Hasharon, Haifa, Hertzelia and other parts of the country said that "“The Settlers" got what they deserved.

Please let me tell you something. There are no "Settlers" and if there are, then every citizen of Israel is a SETTLER. Every Jew that is living in Eretz Yisrael has settled in the Holy Land of Israel after 2,000 years of exile. The word “Settler” was invented by politicians for a specific political agenda, and unfortunately the masses of Israeli society as well as Washington and the European Union bought into this deceitful manipulation. We were manipulated once before by the United Nations in 1948, by having ourselves call ourselves a "State," when in reality we are a "Nation." New York is a State, Texas is a State, New Jersey is a State, California is a State, but Israel is a "Nation." And by calling Israel a "State," the world made us diminish ourselves as Jews, as well as a “Nation among Nations." And now, Ehud Olmert wants to outdo the United Nations of 1948 and turn this "State" into a "Police State?"

A Police State that is going to withdraw from Judea and Samaria and hand over our Holy Land to the Arabs!! His Demographic Study is False. It’s a Lie. The Truth was told to him by the Americans, but he won’t listen. He wants to REDRAW the MAP OF ISRAEL and create a new country called "THE NEGEV." A country that won’t have any connection to our Jewish history. No Jerusalem, No Rachel Imainu, No Machpeila or Hevron, No Yosef HaTzaddik, but he is not doing this alone. His CHIEF ARCHITECT is the last survivor of the Original Russian, Bolshevick, Communist, Socialist, Labor Settlers in Palestine, that built the kibbutzim to break up the Jewish family. That architect’s name is SHIMON PERES, and he is holding on with all his might to see the dream of his original cohorts completed: “The Destruction of Religious Judaism.”

How can we stand by idly and allow him to do this? Don’t you realize that once his storm troopers and horses have tasted Jewish Blood, he could decide at any time to turn them on the “Settlers” of Tel Aviv, or the “Settlers” of Haifa, or the “Settlers” of Beer Sheva? When you have a Police State and a government-controlled court and a government-controlled media, then you are no longer a democracy. You are a Dictatorship: a Police State, and you will wake up one morning, and G-d forbid, find that you are afraid of your own children turning you in if they hear you saying anything against the Government.

Please, for G-d’s sake, WAKE UP before it’s too late!! We are not just Israelis, WE ARE JEWS. And if we have any doubt, or think we will be immune from anti-Semitism simply because some live in Tel Aviv or Ramat HaSharon and don’t wear a kippah, know that Iran does not make that distinction. They want to wipe out all of Israel off the face of the map because we are all Jews. This was also the goal of Hitler, the Spanish Inquisition, the Roman Empire, and Haman in Persia, that is now Iran, over 2,000 years ago. They don’t care if we dress like them or eat what they eat, all they know is that we are all Jews. And, as Jews, our main weapon is our wholeness and unity as a people, our “Shlamut,” as well as our G-d, our Holy Torah, and the precious Holy Land that we were given. But that Land must be whole, “Shalem.” If not, if it is broken, and if we are not whole and unified, then we too are broken and easily conquered.

All of what I am saying is the basics of what Moses brought down to the Children of Israel at Har Sinai. Let us not fight ourselves, rather, we must now unite and fight our Enemy because our Enemy wants to destroy us. Not just one part of us, but all of us worldwide, and take over our Holy Land. Our Enemy wants to destroy all of Western Civilization.

Don’t believe .... we will be safe. ....Amalek does not seek Peace. Hamas has told us what its intention is very clearly. The P.L.O. Charter states its intent to destroy us.

Let us not be victims again - Let us now be wise. All of us who truly love Eretz Yisrael and Am Yisrael must create the destiny for the Jewish People ourselves and not leave that task up to Ehud Olmert or Shimon Peres, or G-d forbid, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. Let Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael have one goal – SURVIVAL AS A UNIFIED JEWISH NATION and a Light unto all the other Dark nations of the world TODAY!Thank you for the opportunity to address you. I can only hope that my words have truly reached your hearts.

have you noticed how US has frozen assets to all Palestinian charities and tried to get us to do the same, were unsuccessful, and then the BoD website libelled the group that the US couldn't persuade the UK to freeze the assets of? plus, we paid for their fucking duff investigation since they provided no evidence, and we could hardly take their scheming word for it, could we? the other Pal charities are probably just as squeaky clean as the UK Interpal.

Where did I say that. Read what I say sport.

BOTH Israel and the Palestinians have substandard economies. That is why they need the generosity of others.

Also, they are both at fault in this conflict. There are no good guys and bad guys. Its killing on both sides.

You people are so close minded however that you place ALL the blame on one side, Israel.

Right?

Pathetic

Mears;

You're correct , you didn't exactly say that. However, it did provide the opportunity for me to say it again. ( just in case any of the 37million deprived Americans are tuned in )

Even in New Orleans?

By the way, American double-standards and hypocrisy occur far more often than in the rest of the world most Americans have no idea exists...

Could you actually even pick Israel out on a map of the world without it being labelled, Mears?

A huge majority percentage of Americans couldn't.

An international survey for National Geographic found that of Americans surveyed between 18 and 24:

Half couldn't find New York on a map of the US.
Only one in seven can find Iraq on a map of the world.
And one in nine couldn't find the United States on that same map.

Sweden averaged 40 correct answers out of 56.
The US averaged only 23.

Sooner have a slightly lower standard of living than be a dumb morbidly obese couch potato.

Oh aye, indeed I have. It's as if the US and Israel actually want trouble, so they facilitate tensions by cutting off funds and freezing assets. Then people like mears come here and project the line that "they [the Palestinian people] should have voted for another party...but it doesn't mattre who they voted for, the US and Israel aren't interested in sovereignty or democratic choice - particularly if it coflicts with their idea of democracy.

Eminently sensible to snatch bach the funding too, given that the day after Ricehad her attack of pointless posturing the president of the PA flew out for a scheduled meeting in Tehran, where the economy is riding high on the high cost of oil.

Way to go, Israel and the US. You might think that pushing the PA into the arms of the Persians will make the PA "look bad", but perhaps you've also just opened the way for China and Russia to stick their oars in more effectively..

Exactly, China and Russia aren't going to sit back and stay schtum about this. If the US and Israel withold revenue, then the PA will have to go somewhere.

I think you "crusader-like" hits the nail firmly on the head, the entire quote reeks of zealotry, and of an establishment of self-justification for any future acts.

Crazy, such a stupid country could have a higher standard of living than Britian or Europe. All those idiots, and the only superpower standing. Nobel peace prizes, thousands of scientific patents and the best universities on the planet.

Wow, if we are idiots it doesn't say much about the rest world.

It isn't even really about China or Russia actively seeking to use Iran as a bridgehead to gain some involvement in Palestinian politics, it's about realpolitik dictating that having a little leverage, even if you choose to never use it, is better than having no leverage.

Yet again you pretend to miss the point that what such a survey does is point up the differential of achievement.

Why do I say "pretend to"? Because you know the truth as well as anyone does, you just won't acknowledge it.

The point being Americans are challenged on geography? Uh, yes they are as this survey finds. Its pretty sad. I can admit it. But can you admit the US has a higher standard of living than Europe?

No way baby

This "higher standard of living" that you talk about is measured using instruments whose veracity is questionable at best and downright innaccurate at worst.

Those who are living in grinding, abject poverty would disagree with you...but they don't figure in your universe - do they?

In other words poverty is relative, and in the U.S. a large 45.9% of the "poor" own their homes, 72.8% have a car and almost 77% have air conditioning, which remains a luxury in most of Western Europe. The average living space for poor American households is 1,200 square feet. In Europe, the average space for all households, not just the poor, is 1,000 square feet.

Really, enough said

I would like to see the source for these figures - if you would be so kind.

Like I said earlier, the American poor would not be convinced by your argument.
