Am I to old to go to Uni and become a nurse?

No you definately are not, I deal with student nurses for my job and they start at 17 and go right through to 59 - 60 year old students.

Nursing is crying out for someone like you. :)

So all is on.

I am going to apply to all Universities doing the course in Melbourne and go with the best one I am offered.

My ex started her nursing training at 30 and I sit next to a girl at the football who started 2 years ago at 34.

If its what you want to do then go for it. Its bloody hard work though I'm told.

Thanks x
Why have you almost put em away?

well...i had my daughter when I was at uni...and took a year off and then wanted to study midwifery...but...I went back to uni...did my degree then post grad teaching cos I thought it would be easier to train as teacher then work as a teacher and manage childcare etc

and now shes 15 I can see that in the near future I can make different choices that aren't based on having to be at home so much (night shifts etc/long hours)

but i earn a comfortable income as a teacher at top of my scale and have a comfortable job at the moment that's well within my capacity so.....?

let us know how your training goes:)

Yeah fair enuff- Although I have wanted to do this for the last 20 years, similar to you in that now my boy is 14, it will make it a lot easier. As I work part time anyway, I wont be taking a drop money wise as I should be entitled to everything. Will increase my earning potential.

Fair enough,i don't think i'd have the bottle to jack in a decent paid job i was good at BUT....midwifery's obviously something you really want to do,you can study for it part-time and,you know, you don't want to look back when you're 75 thinking "i wish i'd..."

And i'd say 30's the ideal age to go into nursing. You're old enough to know it's really what you want to do,and you'll have enough life experience that you can deal with the patients, but you're young enough that your back isn't knackered. Yet. ;) So good luck.
