I've got a feeling Bat For Lashes might win this, but i hope not because it seems to be the kiss of death for some winners. If The Winehouse wins she may break the curse :D
We saw Bat For Lashes play at library-utterly spellbinding:cool:

"New Forms" was a brilliant album, and Reprazent were awesome live.

Its one of those records I really liked at the time, but enjoy a lot less when I listen to it now.

im a big fan of drummer seb rochford,he's a cool guy too..would love to see him win..his music is
classified as jazz but some freinds of mine who hate jazz make the exception
in his case..havent heard his newest project tho.:) about to check it out:cool:

havent heard all the acts on there..sure some crap has won in the past but some crediable acts have as well...we can all come up with plenty in both catejories!
at least its not based solely on SALES figures and they sometimes do have reasonably obscure talented folks nominated who arent THAT commercial/hyped up, which is SOMETHING i guess..cos it brings them attention outside their core audience

the klaxons are ok for a hyped relatively commercial act IMHO..i thought they would be a looks based electro peaches sound alike you know like the bands always playing at club motherfucker but they are better than that(not difficult admitedly;) )

antony hedgely(of antony and johnsons fame)lived in the uk til he was 12..his family emigrated to the states ...

The mercury prize is like an episode of Jools Holland with a prize for the band that gets the loudest cheer minus the token old guy with saxaphone/slide guitar.

No boogie-woogie piano, either, thank fuck.

Other than that, spot on. Industry backslapfest in the desperate hope of selling a few extra records to people who think stickers on the case are important.

Bat for Lashes are great, far and away the best thing I've heard on that list. They're amazing live too. It would be nice if they remain relatively obscure so that I can see them up close in small venues, however. :)

I really, really hope Amy Winehouse or The View don't win.

Oh yes, your totally right (but it may have been a string quartet this year), but i can't believe the Klaxons got the loudest cheer in this instance :D

The Winehouse/Bat For Lashes were robbed

anyone actually heard the Seb rochford basqiat strings thing? any good? ...his other bands are ace.
its bad white classicaly trained jazz.

it looked as if the main guy was the cello player rather than seb (who played very well). Still, sometimes this kind of thing sounds better on album, so might be worth another look.

IMO amy winehouse is a poor imitation of real soul/jazz singers - rather than singing from the soul she sings from what she thinks soul singers should sound like. Id rather she went and did a punk album and got it out of her system. good character to have around in the media though - glad shes about.

just re-reading this thread...i didnt see the programme last night.sorry that i wrote that the klaxons werent that bad, music can be SO subjective, first impressions and all that, perhaps i focused too much on their pleasing image:eek: :o

..well i had heard 1 or 2 tracks at that point..now after dl them a few weeks back, ive heard their cd twice and im not too impressed..but well they are professsional "product" just like many other acts on the list..i honestly dont think they are worse than any other indie product band..shame seb roachford didnt win..maybe 1 day..i remember being so blow away by him when i first saw him at klinker in 2002! :D

Oh jesus, they didn't win did they?

*goes off to find that picture of Jamie Klaxon with a big wet stain on his crotch*
