alternative christmas day breakfast

IMHO it's all in the way you serve it - crap pork pie still in the wrapper - wrong.

Good pork pie, cut into wedges (or slices), with a few salady bits (cherry tomatoes, apple slices, etc) and maybe a bit of mayonnaise or salad cream, with fancy serviettes (or your best kitchen roll) - right.

Brush peppers, aubergines, red onions, cherry tomatoes in Olive Oil and roast under grill. When done place on lightly toasted bread (Cibatta's good). Put poached egg on top of that and put a lump of pesto to top everything off.

Or maybe get some portobello mushrooms. Brush with a mix of lemon juice and melted butter. Cook face down for 10 minutes in oven, then turn over and put lumps of blue cheese on top and cook until done.

Maybe Brie on toast (some kind of posh buttery bread) topped with warmed grapes. For the grapes cut into halves or quarters, add bit of grape juice and salt and pepper, reduce so syrupy sauce. (think I missed an ingredient out of this sauce)

For extra tasty Scrambled Eggs do in a Bain Marie. stir as little as possible. add butter half way though cooking. dash of cream and chives at end.

I like breakfast!

we have champagne and the random little party bite things from m&s.

the little ham and cream cheese spiral things...fooook me they're lovely. i can happily eat a whole box..im usually pissed and stuffed before even getting dressed. its what christmas is about innit :D

No wait, end the thread. We have a winner.

This. Can anyone else recommend a vegetarian friedly breakfast that screams of luxury and decadence?

A stack of hot pancakes with blueberries, maple syrup and cream. Sliced bananas if you like them. Really good expensive bread, toasted and thickly buttered, with creamy scrambled eggs and chives. Chapagne.

Personally, I'd go for a really good BLT. Thick bacon from Borough, proper tomatoes, crisp lettuce, Hellman's mayonnaise, doorstep wedges of white bread. With a big mug of tea. Cracking.

I think me and mr madz might have that - fine idea

Nigella has a lovely chocolate pastry recipe in Feast which I did for xmas breakfast a couple of years ago. They're richer and more substantial that croissants and you can prepare them the night before.

i think i might actually stick with the smoked salmon/eggs/bagels combo, tbf. nothing really leaps out at me and makes me salivate.

hey madz - my wife said that if i snog you up you might tell me what i'm getting for christmas
