"Down my street is the local Primary School for Holocaust Deniers. Not everyone there is a genuine holocaust denier, but parents try and get them in because it apparently gets good grades."

Faith schools are popular because they do a better job of educating than many other schools. I would suggest this is because they have a more coherent ethos that allows them to function more effectively.
It's not about teaching RE. My older kids went to a non-faith school where the fundamentalist teachers subjected them to far more "religion" than my younger kids who went to a C of E school.
Faith schools are more structured, are better at conveying positive values and better focused on personal development. That's why people want them.
If anyone thinks faith schools are a good idea just look at N.Ireland. There was only a few catholics at my school since most of them went to Catholic Schools. This made ours a Protestant school by default - and certainly did nothing to alleviate suspicion of "them" - bearing in mind this was in the 70s and 80s, faith schools don't get my vote!
keep the ones we have got but no new ones NI springs to mind as a reason not to do it
only reason to keep the ones we got they seem to be popular and get good grades possibly more to do with people fighting to get the kids in to said schools
i can understand a religion funding a school but i think all education inside the school should be totally free of religios influence and any religious activities should be only at the level of increased flexability of timetabling to allow for mandiotory prays etc and perhaps activities after school
Why can we not have education rather than indoctrination?
Schools can quite rightly teach that there is religion ABC which believes in XYZ and there is also religion DEF which believes in ect etc .. but to have one religion in charge of a school of impressionable young people is indoctrination and it is just wrong.
Shut 'em. Schools should be secular. And do the same across Europe, there's far too many Catholic, Protestant and Muslim schools here in Holland encouraging nuff hate (A muslim primary school was firebombed after van Gogh was murdered).
Even if there is no religious indoctrination at school, that still leaves scope for plenty of other kinds of indoctrination. I'd argue that our school system is rather more concerned with indoctrination than education tbh.
