Just wathcing Allo Allo and the others they've aged terribly - compare to something like ER, or any quality programme of a similar period and the difference is absolutely staggering.

huh? Allo Allo & ER a similar period ??

Allo Allo first aired in 1984. ER first aired in 1994. And how can you even try to compare the two

Allo Allo was great, though it should have been cancelled long before it was.

Ahh waz jus' pissing by... :D

'I expect you are wondering what I am doing dressed as an onion seller...'

The endless pursuit of the painting of the cracked vase with the big daisies and the fallen madonna with the big boobies :D

Of course it was brilliant :)

That policeman is still funny. :)
I watched the comedy connections thing too, and was pleased to see that the actors who played the policeman and Herr Flick are still gorgeous.
God damn I had good taste when I was 5.

*resurrects old thread*

Anyone who said crap obviously doesn't understand the subtle genius of Allo Allo! The show managed to mix intelligent historical/political points with crude puns, had constant references to bdsm, handled the language/culture issues brilliantly, and managed to come up with some amazing catchphrases. It can't really be compared to modern humour, but it was certainly FAR better than its contemporaries.

I voted crap, but I probably lean towards more indifference. It's the same thing with all David Croft sitcoms really, they're just there, like wallpaper on your tellybox. There's nothing offensive about them, they probably have some good jokes and characterization in them, but I just can't care enough to actually like any of the shows. There's something just too quaint and nostalgic there, that I just can't find appealling.

Apparently the people who translated it into Serbian did a very good job, especially on getting the English spy speaking his wonky french to work well. It's quite popular there I think*.

*survey of one.

Not crap and I can imagine the outcry if you'd try to do it today.
People seem to take a dim view of nazi uniform wearing and comedy these days.
I think humour about the nazis got many people through the war.

Hitler has only got one ball,
The other is on the kitchen wall,
His mother, the dirty bugger,
Chopped it off when he was small.

Don't tell him Pike :)

Shhhhh don't mention the war.

Not crap in any sense at all. I rewatched the whole thing online a year or so ago, and it still made me laugh tons. It's all so friendly.

I love the way that they managed to actually sneak rebutals of common historical misconceptions into the series, albeit in humorous ways; eg. no one except rené knows who de gaulle is ("he's the one with the big 'ooter *gestures to nose*")
