All Night in The Hospital At My Girlfriend's Bedside

no they don't have to see everyone.

from my experience, the nurse gave those who wanted to leave (included me) a piece of paper to sign stating they'd leave without seeing doctor voluntarily :(

They are still seeing you though aren't they? It might be 'only' a nurse but it's a triage assessment. It's still resource.

But then clearly they're not ill enough to be at A&E surely? That's what I don't get. Why would you go unless you thought it was something that was life-threatening?

I went to A&E when I was mugged and hit over the head with a bottle. It needed treating as it wouldn't stop bleeding, but after waiting for what seemed like ages I went home. It still wouldn't stop bleeding, I called my mum and she made me go back at wait. It did need stitches in the end.

People who are in pain don't necessarily act rationally.

I didn't think it was that relevant so I didn't mention it, but I rang her GP, got an answerphone that eventually put me through the the emergency doctor who said staright 'If she's vomitted and fainted - call an ambulance!'
that's fair enough, you were really worried, had no clue what was wrong and called an ambulance.

thank fuck for the NHS.

And if someone chooses not to wait, how can they say they say the nursing staff refused to see them?

Ooh sisters with opposing POVs! :D

That's a good point Geri - I've never had to wait more than 20 mins for my triage assessment so I don't know what I'd do in that situation.

I am so getting my moneys worth out of the NHS at the moment. This time the daughter managed to fall off a trampoline - another trip to A&E and she now has a suspected scaphoid fracture!

Tomorrow we have the fracture clinic and 9am and the psychologist at 2pm:rolleyes:

Ouchy. I've fractured my scaphoid and it's agony. I had a lot of problems with diagnosis as they couldn't decide if it was fractured or not.

((((felixthekitten))))

Well, maybe we need nationwide 24hr walk-in centres.

I really like walk in centres and use them instead of the GP most of the time, because you don't have to make an appt and wait several days. True you might have to wait a while to see somebody, but take a book along and it's not a problem.

Everyone we dealt were consumate professionals. They did everything they could within the parameters of the system. I'm really grateful for that.

But for me and mine, the waiting - for medical staff, for information, isn't good enough. My gf was in state for far longer than need be and I can afford to go private.

Is it wrong to decide to do that on the basis of last night's experience?

Not at all
Hope she is better
