Alessi

I quite like the Starck juicer (got bought one as a present). I like getting tons of cheap oranges & having a juicing orgy. It will do glass after glass & then you just wash it, unlike with electric juicers where you have to scrape out the pulp etc..

The only thing is, you have to hold its legs on the surface, as it's unwieldy.
It's the fact that it's so unstable I don't like. I have never owned one myself but I have used one. Sod that, I have one of these (10p secondhand, Brixton Market years ago). Easy to clean, does the job very well.

...and it has handy little bumps that catch the pips.

I use something like this:

Catches pips and pulp. It's fine...

See those are just as impractical as the alessi type ime. For slightly different reasons, but I wouldn't use one.

That was my point though . The plastic shit is just over designed crap and the stuff like the kettles/coffee makers which do their job really well aren't the best looking ones that you can get , but that's just my opinion of how they are designed so other people probably disagree !

Oh they clearly are, and that's with 6 years of experience in design... You just have no taste. :D

Nah, it's up to you what you like, but the Alessi stuff I've used/owned has all been absolutely top notch with neat little extras that set them above the competition... Thing is other high end kettles tend to cost just as much anyway, and I just don't think the designs are as refined.

I mean they're nice, just a bit boring.

They are the easiest to use of any orange juicer ( I've used alessi , the pip catcer style and my one ) . I can't see how you would think they are impractical

Well, because they don't catch seeds or pulp of course. The Alessi (which I have only used a couple of times) drips down onto whatever receptacle you have underneath which, for all its other flaws, can be quite useful.

Alessi do a squeezer like that btw:

I've been eyeing that up for some time but I'm too superstitious to buy it for Sparky in the twilight of his life. Also, I can only find it in blue *spit* On the other hand, it might give him a new lease of life :D
*flexes credit card*

I quite like the cutesy nature of the Alessi products, but they're a bit overexposed. I know four people with those cat bowls for example.

And there's something that slightly feels wrong when you find yourself about to purchase a plastic carrot shaped kitchen roll holder for 30 squid odd, or a plain biscuit tin with an cutesy blue man hanging off the edge. They're the sort of weirdo items you'd usually buy from the pound shop, not find yourself buying at the last second because you need a respectable pressie for mates and are too lazy to look for anything else.

I love the dog bowls!! :D

They're the best

Alessi does design classics, and some of the stuff lasts like forever, you pay for it though

I've got the cat bowl as well :D

It's actually very handy - it's so easy to pick up and put down by holding the tail, the silver bowls come out and go in the dishwasher without taking up much space, it's heavy enough to stop the cat pushing it about and the bowls are deep enough that she doesn't slop her food everywhere.

So we only bought it because it was so cute but it's actually the most practical cat food bowl we've had.

Definitely - I'd never have bought one myself! The unwieldiness is a real design flaw - it could have been designed with shorter, sturdier legs.

(Then I wouldn't have had to replace a glass coffee pot as the juicer unexpectedly flew across the worktop:mad:).

I agree with tarranau that the pound shop look of that kitchen roll holder!

I have an Anna G corkscrew. i've had it for years now and it's a very good corkscrew - nice and sturdy and also easy to find.

I have squeezers for the controlled acquisition of juice, I have hands should I require a rapid addition of said substance. For these reasons alone I shall shun these 'reamers'.

I've actually just realised we have one (one of the Alessi ones I posted an image of earlier), it's quite a nice little thing, but I'm pretty sure none of my family have ever used it.
