Aldridge blames Daley for failure

Aldridge's point was that the huge media pressure on Daley had an effect. The media are obviously going to twist that into him criticising Daley.

We're paying for 471 BBC people in China by the way.

Agreed, Aldridge may have a point.

The BOC allowed far, far too much access to Tom. Talented though he is, he's 14 and should have been better protected.
Tom wasnt in a position to tell the bullshit media fluff to bugger off. He had a job to do and being the centre of a 3 ring circus wasnt the best way to prepare.

They wanted to promote their golden boy to inspire other young athletes which is desirable, but that should have stopped the moment he hit the village.

Aldridge needs to stop with the bitching now though. I hope Tom's Olympic come down isnt too harsh.

aidridge's entrance's to the water were inferior
I thought the general consensus was that Aldridge out performed Tom?

Certainly thats line Aldrige is going with- from the above article:

"I wasn't on the top of my game, but I out-dived Thomas and that's not something that normally happens.

Well anyay, Tom has his individual event next week. Hopefully his coaching team will keep him relaxed and off the damn telly.

It sounds to me like a combination of disappointment and frustration making him lash out slightly. Tom Daley has a further chance to compete whereas Blake Aldridge doesn't

The media circus can't have helped and it must be strange being a 26 year old working with a 14 year old - however mature Tom Daley is and however much they are focused on what they are doing that dynamic must be quite difficult at times.

Dunno about the general consensus, i'm just going by what i saw on tellt last night!

He wouldn't be human if he didn't feel a pang of jealousy,I mean all those long hours training with fuck all recognition and his one shot of fame at the Olympics blown away by the publicity surrounding a 14 yr old squirt plus the few endorsements that come a divers way are no doubt being hoovered up by the more marketable Daley

Thats his opinion.. thats not really what happened. First one wasnt fantastic on entry, next both were off, then both good and so on.
Sounds to me like he needs a good kick in the pants.. slagging off your team mate just shows you arent working with your partner as a team. Picking up your phone and chatting to your ma during the competition demonstrates that quite ably too..

Its not about who is teammate is, its about the fact he's a sore loser who doesnt want to accept responsibility for any part of their performance- rather imature really ... touche

This.

I think its a bit shitty to blame your team mate. He didn't have anything to say about his own performance.

I saw that interview, and Daley was stood next too him whilst he was being slagged off.

Slagging off your team mate to the media is a completely shitty thing to do even if you do think they didnt perform as well as they could have. Especially when theyre a 14 year old kid.

I thought it was quite funny the 14 year old told off the 26 year old for phoning his mum during the competition as though :D

He did. He said he was pretty good.

His analysis of their failings was probably about right, which doesn't alter the fact that it was a twattish thing to do.

Im getting fed up. We're losing the badminton.

But yeah, Aldridge should have kept his concerns in house, even if they had some substance. He comes off looking really bad.

Interestingly, Leon Taylor (Medalist in 2004 and Tom's mentor this time round) has come out to say they were both off-key in the diving yesterday. He reckons both divers are still great friends.

I've known Blake very well since we were young, and this does not surprise me at all. He has always been a egotistical prize prick. :D

I'd feel sorry for him if he hadn't have fucked up his previous chances of going to the olympics by getting up to stuff that an "athlete" really shouldn't be getting up to iykwim. ;)

I thought it was ridiculous that many papers concentrated on this story rather than Rebecca Adlington's gold medal on the same day. Proof that our press would rather have 'controversy' over sporting success any day. Reading the Guardian yesterday you'd have thought the pair were a nailed on cert for a medal which was never the case, they were an outside shot.

Bit daft to say what he did, which doesn't mean to say he wasn't right.
