Aldi/Lidl?

We have a B&M (is that Home Bargains?) which is good for dry goods and cleaning stuffs.
I quite like the awfulness of their shops :D

No b&m and home bargains different shops. Similar tbf

I noticed the fray bentos for a quid btw steps, mentally stored it for next time I'm home alone for tea

I now live down the road from a Lidl and an Aldi.

Lidl is so much better though. Got some cracking chili bratwurst type sausages the other day. Always happy with the chocolate, too.

I have an Aldi within walking distance, but it's always chaos. The nearest Lidl is quite big, so the aisles are wider and it's generally a bit quieter which makes for a calmer shopping experience. Plus it has the bakery

I don't like the way the shops are laid out to make you walk halfway round the place just to get to the tills

I don't like B&M stores because they have stock all over the place. Same products often in two different locations. However, their Felix cat food offer is the cheapest and has been for a while. Also, another plus to compensate for the shit layout is that the staff in our local store are very chatty and friendly.

I did it!!

The fresh vegetables, fruit and salad does seem better.
Only criticism was that pretty much everything (carrots, potatoes) were all packed in plastic which annoys me.

Meats (raw and cooked) seemed much the same as Lidl in terms of range and price but the cheese section had a much better selection.

Price wise overall there is nothing in it. Some of the regular things I buy (bottles of juice and such) were identical to Lidl. The 'middle aisles' were bigger and less of a jumble sale than Lidl offer but I rarely get anything from there anyway. Somethings that I always get at Lidl were not on offer which was annoying, also the bread/pastry section is pretty poor.

Got two frozen 'Carlo' pizzas for 67p each at Aldi so this may be a reason to return if they pan out well :hmm: I don't buy much frozen food (apart from peas, doner kebab meat and choc-ices) but the Aldi frozen range is definitly bigger than my local Lidl.

Result of this experiment is that I will probably stick with Lidl. It might be store specific but the Lidl layout/tills are better and the aisles are wider. Would rather not visit two separate supermarkets for food but they are pretty near to each other so could be a goer.

currently eating Kabanos

One thing that struck me is how loyal I am to food brands/portions etc. I always get a few jars of Olives at Lidl and the ones are Aldi were in bigger jars (roughly the same price) and it put me off them :hmm:

Entering Lidls I feel joy and curiosity; like a young hobbit on a cheeky escapade. Innocence and wonder pervades. A new cheese! A welder? Thermal long johns!? Possibilities full of hope, where will all this lead?

Aldi...aldi...owldee
The ship is sinking, we know this. Nothing left, no resolution, yet we drag out a hollow and lonely procession. Never make eye contact. A connection, just a glance and there’s no denying we’re in aldi.

I have got a few FB Pies in the #brexitstockpile cupboard :D

Been at least a decade since I have eaten one :hmm:

I had a steak and kidney one recently, shipped to my foreign gaff by British Corner Shop. Did it just as a throwback, out of nostalgia for my student days, when I regarded them as the height of indulgence.

It was pretty bad! The gravy had a chemical tang I didn’t recognise from before and the pastry didn’t rise well either. There were maybe 4 pieces of meat, each less than the size of my smallest fingernail. However, deffo a good cupboard filler for Brexit / corona virus / end of the world panic buying. I’m not sure I’d be keen on eating one if the electric was off and I had no oven.

We have a small Lidl nearby which I use but I do make an effort to go further afield to an Aldi as their own brand coconut water is £1.49 which is half the price of the name brands, they also have nice cooked salmon pieces and cotton wool pads much cheaper than elsewhere

And Aldi's tomato Bruschetta yum

when they have them - you have to buy up all the stock when you see them because otherwise some twats get there before you

Badgers the 67p pizzas worry me because while Carlos is the right brand the cheese and tom standard cost 18p more. Please feedback.
I got one standard and one pepperoni. Both were definitely 67p, I remember you mentioning the the cost of 85p and specifically went looking.

Shall I post a pic?
