Aldi/Lidl?

We'd always go to Aldi, you get used to the weird layout and products where their greatest expense is hiring the lawyers to make sure they're just different enough from the products they're trying to copy without getting sued. The chocolate aisle is great, "racers" "titan" "bubbly" oh come on. Anyway we recently switched to Asda so we could get the home delivery. Well we've realised Aldi is actually much better, just the basics stuff is much nicer than basic asda stuff which generally tastes like crap. Cool story bro.
:D

Asda is not bad price wise but find the fresh stuff poor compared to most.

Bit of a bump.

I am a Lidl convert of late. Always used to go there on occasion for cheeses, cured meats and dry goods but vouchers for Waitrose/Sainsbury's always held my attention.

Lidl is my monthly shop but there is an Aldi nearby too. Keep reading that Aldi has the better range :hmm: is there much difference?
Nearest of the two is Aldi , we did go there regularly until #trolleygate a few months ago, when they ran out of trolleys and baskets as it was so busy #neverhappensinwaitrose and people were stalking folk in the car park for their #precioustrolley . Might head back this weekend as they did good food and wine stuff.

I have both within 15 mins walk. I defer to Aldi mostly. Lidl is a stop for a big bugger tub of their fruit yogurt, something from the bakery, some pea shoot salad and, until recently, XL eggs but Aldi are now stocking them. Lidl are the "Ooo that looks interesting" shop whereas Aldi are the "Here's all my fruit and veg, protein, condiments, dairy, etc, staples" for me at least. But I have a very varied diet so I frequent oriental and eastern European supermarkets to fill in the blanks.

I was avoiding Aldi for a while after an...erm.. .incident a few months ago. but had to go back on Monday. The security guard followed me around the whole time but that was to be expected.

I much prefer Lidl usually. Better continental food and better specials. 80-90% of stuff is more or less identical across both stores anyway.

Tell me to fuck off if you'd like but I'm intrigued by this incident

I was trying to buy a saucepan and they couldn't find the code (the code was there on the shelf, I told them). They made a big fuss about me waiting for the manager who didn't show. I asked twice and was left waiting for fifteen minutes. I was on the point of being late for after school club so I walked with the pan. Security guard followed me and there was a scuffle. I didn't get the pan.

A 'scuffle' you say?

I think Aldi is slightly better quality than Lidl but my Lidl is in walking distance and Aldi isn’t (or at least wouldn’t be on the return with heavy bags) so it’s Lidl we use. I have never struggled to get what I want from Lidl / Aldi. Evidently my diet isn’t that adventurous.

My Aldi and Lidl are on the same retail park but never ventured into the Aldi before #fearchange so today is a big step

We use lidl for our weekly shop, we just sort of fell into the habit of going there. I like Aldi too but Lidl is closer to home.

Aldi is fab, only thing I dislike about it is their policy of closing down and opening checkouts all the time.

But the food is good, there's often decent stuff every Thursday when they get a load of new household weirdness, and Aldi's Kooliburra Cabernet/Shiraz is the best cheap wine I've ever had, so I have it a lot.

Spoiled really, cos there's also a Jack's and a Home Bargains within shuffling distance, so shopping for everything is cheap and easy.

What is jacks like? I though tescos binned it off.

I went to a supermarket sized b&m recently and it was great, ok couldn't do a full food shop there but I bought some bathroom sealant for about half what b&q would have charged me and clocked loads of stuff that was decent. Admittedly the clothes section was a bit errrr

If you know about the check thing and see long queues though it's always worth hovering as they do normally open another one quite quickly.

Probably an unpopular opinion here, but I wouldn't mind a few scab tills for when I havnt got many items.

Jack's is really good for veg and canned food, and the bakery at ours is fab. Not amazing for meat, and I get cleaning stuff from Home Bargains next door.
Jack's also good for getting a couple of bits cos of the scab tills.

I nearly always nip to B&Ms if I'm in the UK good for Frey Bentos steak and kidney pies for a quid , cheap chocolate and sweets, dog chews and their beer section can throw up some bargains
