Alcoholism in the Family and Counsellors

I'm sorry to hear this Yelkub, it must be a terrible strain on all of you.

I have no advice to offer, other than if the person doesn't want to stop drinking, you can't make them. A support group for family members with alcohol problems may be help to you and offer better advice than I can.

Has she ever spoken to a GP about her drinking? Her liver may be damaged, which could affect her health generally.

Love to you, Yelkcub.

Aint no more to be said. I hope either the grief is bearable or she finally accepts responsibility for her addiction and finds a way of coping.

I'm so sorry your having to live through this.

I'm so very sorry to hear this, Yelkclub.

Take it from one who knows that until she genuinely want's to stop drinking, she isn't going to stop. There's no help you can give, no magic phrase you can utter, no red button to push. And it's very, very easy to find yourself supporting the sickness instead of supporting the recovery.

But on a positive note, my sister, after 10 years of alcoholism and complete fucking chaos has been sober for almost 4 years now with the help of AA. And I never thought the day would dawn, it all seemed so hopeless. But it can be done.

Holding a good thought for you all x
