Best Albums Of 2017 So Far List - Stereogum
Brainbombs always do an album of the year whenever they choose to release one
The Fall release their thirty-second studio album, New Facts Emerge, at the end of July.
thru that brainbombs album i also found out about a related lp by No Balls "More Is More", I actually prefer it musically, it is pretty brutal
The new Juana Molina album is really good:
Kaleidoscope "Vol. 3": very dense and complex post punk (with the emphasis on punk), played totally cliche-free:
Ex Eye - Ex Eye (Colin Stetson's metal band) record coming out next week.
New Ride album out today!
Just apprehensively hit play on Spotify.....
Slowdive didn't let me down with their album earlier in the year. Let's see if Ride can match 'em?
Not overly keen on first listen - first track gets the album off to a flying start and there were a couple of other good'uns but on the whole I'm fairly under-whelmed.
Will put the Slowdive album on again - for the 200th time.
Zaire 74: The African Artists
We all know about the Rumble in the Jungle, yeah? Mohammed Ali and George Forman fighting in Kinshasa. Shifty financial backers. Mobuto. And the Zaire 74 festival featuring James Brown, Bill Withers, BB King and the Detroit Spinners. All in the film When We Were Kings. But not quite all, as none of the African artists sets have been released before. Until now. 2 CDs/3 LP featuring 4 complete sets from the festival plus various other acts. The sound recording is amazing - it sounds studio quality clear. Highlights are the funky sets by Tabu Ley Rochereau & Afrisa and Franco & TPOK Jazz Orchestra. But there's also afro-rock by Abeti and Miriam Mabeka in her prime. If you've got any interest in afro music in the 70s you'll want this.
2raumwohnung - Nacht und Tag
Inga Humpe is my favourite German synthpop singer (tbf there's limited competition). She started out in the Neue Deutsche Welle band Neonbabies in the late 70s, before going synth and working with Conny Plank, Trevor Horn, Robert Fripp, The Beloved, releasing some techno on Tresor (remixed by Underground Resistance) and then for the last 17 years being in 2raumwohnung with Tommi Eckart (who released under various aliases on Harthouse, Disko B & Rising High in the early 90s). They've put out loads of albums of various flavours of poppy dance music, but this latest one is great. Or at least half great; there's 2 CDs, one with 'day' versions of the 10 songs, one with 'night' versions. And it's the night versions CD that this is all about - a flawless German technopop album, sung in a mix of German and English, Dieter Meier (Yello) popping in for a duet on one song. The day versions are almost superfluous, although maybe when I've played it to death it might be nice to listen to chilled versions of the songs.
This is the single: Somebody Lonely and Me
Ha, I bought an zaire 74 t-shirt last week without even knowing what it was, but have since become keen on hearing some of the performances - will pick this up, ta!
This is out today, to reasonably reviews. I haven't bought it yet, but saw it in HMV this morning. It seems that, at least on some editions, they've stuck some "bonus tracks" on the end, including Creep, Unpretty and No Scrubs. What's the bloody point of that? Surely everyone interested will already have CrazySexyCool and Fanmail?
I've only just got round to picking it up, but the Richard Dawson album I mentioned earlier is just brilliant.
this review is good. But just listen to the album.

Nice - just started investigating my way through that list.
Just listened to the Justin Waters album on Kranky twice.... mmmmmm, right up my alley. Made using a synth controlled by the wind no less....
I'm a big fan of The Yossarians live, so i reckon their album will be worth checking out. I liked the Visible Cloaks album too.
Really enjoying this comp of ambient / neo new-age stuff. Lush AF
this sounds amazing, i heard its going to be 30 1-second-long tracks rather than a single song that lasts half a minute, who know what mes' vocals will do
Christ, I was enjoying that until a new age version of 'I Believe I Can Fly' came on
I don't think it's totally serious.
This new Doomed Bird of Providence album - dark ambient doom folk for want of a better description.
Burrowed Into The Soft Sky
Thanks for posting, I didn't know this was out
I see Pigs x7 on that Quietus list but no Forest Swords. They're the top two for me so far.
That's about the length of his attention span these days.
Did anyone know that Black Grape have released a new album today?
so, I got well excited by their 936 album a few years back but have been disappointed and disinterested in everything else
they've done since. possibly it's just the sun shining but quite enjoying this new one
Really into this ambient brass/organ thing. Soothing.
How are you feeling, a month on? I've just stuck on Nowhere to see if I like it enough to take a punt on the new one. I really like Slowdive, wasn't blown away at all by mbv, and have thoroughly liked efforts by new upstarts Pinkshinyultrablast and Venera 4, so I'm wondering whether to continue my shoegaze renaissance.
Im listening to it now! :-D
I have listened to it so many times you wouldnt believe. If you like slowdive you will like it i guarantee!
(dont bother with the ride one though)
