Air Italy has gone tits up? How sad. They had great pasta.

It is a shame though. I've flown with them a few times and they're a lot better than British Airways.

Alitalia have been teetering for about 10 years now. The EU competition commission have been fining the Italian government huge sums every year because of the ongoing bailouts from the public purse and pushing for it to be sold...

No you won't. ABTA bonding has nothing to do with the selling of scheduled flights.

Some agencies offer Airline Failure Insurance, however the insurance companies tend to blacklist airlines that are in trouble, so it's worth shit.

AFAIK if you paid with Visa it doesn't matter if it was credit or debit card, you should be covered.
