Bit pissed off, slavverd down to Manchester in order to fly in the 380 with emirates, journey out was champion bit like premium economy, but coming back the first leg was in a Quantas 380 and it was no different than the 777 and the last leg was in a bliddy 777 which if I'd known I could have flown direct to Newcastle.
Trailfinders travel agents have had their last booking off me!

I haven't flown it yet but the universal consensus seems to be it is an extremely quiet and comfortable plane. Of course, each airline will decide on their preferred configuration, but a 10-abreast configuration on the A380 is said to be far better than 9-abreast on the 777, never mind 10-abreast.

Unfortunately commercial aviation circumstances have changed considerably in the twenty odd years since the plane was first conceived, and other than Emirates the demand for the plane has been limited. Still, an impressive feat of engineering.

All of the remaining EK 380s will be 3-4-3 (11 abreast). Unless the 380neo gets some orders it's never going to make back the 25bn that the ever generous tax payers of Europe "invested" in it. It'll probably go out of production in 2018.

If you fly on BA's A380 you can sit upstairs in Economy, which is nice. 2-4-2 and the window seats get a storage locker

For long-haul flights I always book direct with the airline.

Really? The order books are pretty healthy no?

3-4-3 = 10 too.

And if you want to see something special, look up the Residence Etihad.

Sorry, typo, it's 3-5-3.

The order book isn't flash, their hasn't been a significant order since 2013. There's about 130 left to deliver but Amadeo have had to swap delivery slots with EK to push their orders back as they can't find lessees for their 20 so they might never happen.

Ultimately it's 25% more expensive per seat per hour to operate than a 777 so even if you can get 100% utilisation out of it, it's a tough sell.

The A380 really is a step up from anything before it as a passenger. In contrast I took a dreamliner for the first time last year (taking a longer journey just to get a go on one) and was pretty disappointed.

Iran ordered 12 last month, didn't it?

They signed an "accord' which, to the surprise of nobody who's ever done business in Iran, hasn't translated into an actual order yet.

Even if they get Iran Air across the line that doesn't even cover the Lufhansa/Kingfisher/Skymark cancellations.

Still, the program is in the pink of health compared to the 747-8 (120 orders, 100 deliveries) although that could aircraft could get off its deathbed as the global 747-400F/ERF fleets start to be renewed.

Hate Dreamliner (the BA ones anyway) with the dismal lighting and the non-existent overhead lockers at the rear. Bloody thing was so dark I couldn't read the safety card!

Your like and dislikes are only of incidental interest to BA. They just like the low fuel burn and maintenance costs of the 787 compared to other WB twins.

I loved the A380. It felt so quiet sitting up on the top deck. The take off and landing was the smoothest experience of any aircraft I've been on to date. They'll be around for some time yet so I'm sure I'll get to fly on one again, but sad to see the beginning of the end.

Yeah a real shame because its actually a decent way to fly. I've not flown on the top deck and given only a few airlines have economy on the top deck (one being the utterly hopeless BA) I may never get the chance.

Keep saying it, the A380 just doesn't look right. Concorde, the 747, the A340, A350 and so on all look right. The A380's proportions are all wrong. Won't be that sorry to see it go. Although would love a bash at SQ's A380 new 1st class suite.

I flew on one of these to Mauritius about five years back.

It was the flight which helped me get over my fear of flying. Smooth takeoff, smooth landing, NO turbulence and so comfortable.

I didn't sleep (I can't on any form of transport), but it was lovely.
It's a Shame if they're doing away with them.
