Air fresheners

what sort of litter do you use? we found clay was really smelly (and bad) so we went onto wood chips environmentally friendly and it was a lot better.

the corn husk one, the litter box itself (when the are no poo/wee lumps in it) actually smells fine :D

OK. I have had a cat for a month now.

1. the covered litter tray doesn't hide any smells. I have to clean it (with eco bleach) every other day.
2. Cat piss smells tons worse than cat poo
3. Mine eats her food so the smell doesn't linger
4, Cats are obligate carnivores and must have wet food
5. Dry food fucks their innards and 'they've been fine for years' turns into 'My cat died of liver failure'
6. My friends mum's house reeks of litter tray and fake air fresherners

I like using oil burners and incense but at Xmas I received a gift of a JML fresh air globe. Greatly amused me when I opened it but it really is effective.

you can see it www.jmldirect.com

ETA: I also rate those neutradol globes that suck in the bad smells.

We've had a cat for years, she eats a mix of sachets(Lidl, Morrisons and other own brands) and dry biscuits. She has Lidl litter in her tray, which gets used bits taken out of it asap and our house doesn't smell of cat(unless it's right after she's pooed)

We do have a coal fire so there is always some air getting in but it shouldn't make that much difference, do you have open windows/vents at all??

right I think the smell was made worse by not having enough litter in the tray. when I read the instructions properly (yeah yeah I know) it needed to be deeper

so I've changed the trays, washed the floors and am trying them with some Hills Science food (they wolfed it down) so I'll see how it goes :)

Make sure you have more water than usual available, as they drink a lot more than when they're on wet food. :)

Plug ins are evil. If there is anyone who visits your home who is ven slightly asthmatic, don't ever use plug ins please.

Personally I use scented candles. I've recently seen these stick things in a vase with special perfume at the bottom meant to scent a room. Sorry if that description is rubbish but I don't know what they're called - I saw them in the USA.

The neutradol gel pots are supposed to be quite good

But even better would be getting bees to buy you some pink lilies every week.

Freesias, they're pretty, smell lovely and are ok round cats afaik. It's only some lilies are bad for cats, dunno which ones though.
