Ahmedinajad gets C4's alternative Christmas message slot

Or how about a double-act of David Irving and Nicholas Griffin, both of whom have done far less damage in real terms than Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Provided they produce a message that is suitably platitudinous and fluffy, then the people who supported President Ahmadinejad can have no objection!

He's a twat n everything but:

"If the Europeans are telling the truth in their claim that they have killed six million Jews in the Holocaust during the World War II - which seems they are right in their claim because they insist on it and arrest and imprison those who oppose it, why the Palestinian nation should pay for the crime. Why have they come to the very heart of the Islamic world and are committing crimes against the dear Palestine using their bombs, rockets, missiles and sanctions"

Shiraz Dossa, a professor at St. Francis Xavier University, in Nova Scotia, Canada, argued in June 2007 that

Ahmadinejad has not denied the Holocaust or proposed Israel’s liquidation; he has never done so in any of his speeches on the subject (all delivered in Farsi/Persian). As an Iran specialist, I can attest that both accusations are false... What Ahmadinejad has questioned is the mythologizing, the sacralization, of the Holocaust and the “Zionist regime’s” continued killing of Palestinians and Muslims. He has even raised doubts about the scale of the Holocaust. His rhetoric has been excessive and provocative. And he does not really care what we in the West think about Iran or Muslims; he does not kowtow to western or Israeli diktat

No worse than having any other capitalist leader on. (Who cares?) People who think Ahmedinejad is a 'holocaut denier' who wants to 'liquidate Israel' have been duped by people who likely want to risk starting WW3...

Bullshit, he endorsed an international conference of notable holocaust deniers (David Duke ex Grand Wizard of the KKK etc) in the first year of his Presidency - attended by guess who, yes the very same Shiraz Dossa as above.

He's pretty clearly a 'holocaust questioner' at best - i don't know whether that's a genuiely held position or a political manouvere, externally to rally muslims in the middle east to Iran as the only state which will tell the truth about the jews and internally to provide scapegoats for his neo-liberal policies. Either way, it's pretty fucking rank, as are the attempts to defend him.

While I won't triviliase the fact he courted them. It did follow Irving and Griffin's appearance at Oxford University.

Everything's a political manoeuver with him IMOTBH. But I'll get outraged when TV isn't steeped in sin anyway.

I was about to say something about lots of people making assumptions about what Ahmadinejad has or hasn't said, and that I'd previously heard something about some of the stuff that's attributed to him he hasn't said at all and I was about to go and Google to try and find references to that very thing, so thanks for that adc.

The same kind of thing even happened on this thread, someone declared that Ahmadinejad had been an officer in the Balaji and had specialised in training child 'volunteers' to clear minefields. But the article linked to said no such thing at all.

A lot of the demonising of Ahmadinejad is based on Chinese whispers about what he has or hasn't said. He writes/says something in Farsi, it's gets translated/interpreted... you're already one remove away from what he actually said, and then the journalists will paraphrase it, then the experts will analyse it and impose their own interpretation on to what he's said. And that's how you get from Ahmadinejad saying something along the lines of "If the Europeans killed six million Jews during the holocaust of WWII... then why should the Palestinians pay for their crime?" which could be interpreted as asking why aren't the Europeans paying for their crimes, why are the Palestinians -- which I think is a legitimate question to be asking, Why are the Palestinian people paying for the crimes of Europeans? -- but people pick up on the "If six million jews were killed..." and run with the Ahmadinejad denies holocaust angle... it's all removed several times from the original Farsi spoken or written by Ahmadinejad.

I'm sure there are people here better versed in linguistics and language than I am, but the kind of question construction "If x happened... then why was y a consequence..." doesn't necessarily negate or deny the X happening, it can be just a way of querying Y.

Again, that kind of thing is imposing someone else's interpretation of what he actually said and meant on to Ahmadinejad, putting words into his mouth. Isn't it better, before passing judgement on someone, to hear it from the horse's mouth?

I don't care about what he has or hasn't said - he's the leader of an oppressive murderous intolerant regime mouthing peaceful but quite insincere platitudes just as other leaders like him, Bush, Brown etc are wont to do. Maybe a typical Xmas message, but certainly not an enlightening one nor one which should humanise or put a better spin on a tyrant.

Endorsing and addressing a holocaust denial conference makes it pretty bloody clear despite desperate attempts to hide it. Here's some pics from the conference:

Toben Explains The Fairy Tale Of Auschwitz

Toben_10.jpg

What Was The Conference About?

Mr Krege and Dr Toben's visited three universities, which sponsored mini conferences, where some of Iran's future leaders attend. Their goal was to explain the camps, their purposes, and the physical impossibility of the 'Gassing Legend'.

If you know anything about Holocaust denial you'll already be aware of Richard Krege and Dr Fredrick Toben - in fact, their attendance at this conference will tell you everything you need to know about it.

Well, thanks for sharing anyway.

Surely the point is who is he now and what he's said in the message?
Being a holocaust denier is only one small part of his unsuitability to address us with a peaceful Xmas message.
People are getting bogged down in detail - he's not someone who should be wishing anyone peace or good cheer when he's a tyrannical intolerant old bastard.

And it continues:

Channel 4 is to air the Muslim call to prayer live every morning during the month of Ramadan.

The broadcaster said it was an act of "deliberate provocation" aimed at viewers who might associate Islam with extremism.

The headline-grabbing move will see Channel 4 broadcast the three-minute call to prayer at about 3am for 30 days from the start of Ramadan on 9 July.

In addition, on the first day of Ramadan Channel 4 will interrupt programming four times during the day – to mark subsequent calls to prayer – with a 20-second film to remind viewers of the approaching prayer time.

After that date, the channel will air the 3am call to prayer on live TV, with the other four prayer times will be broadcast on its website.
