Agggh Theology Essay out of control

It can be really difficult to cut stuff out, especially if you feel attached to it. If you've spent a lot of time and energy in completing one particular section, to have to get rid of it can hurt a lot more than you think.

Mastering the art of being brutal and divorcing yourself emotionally during the editing process is crucial.

Good luck :)

Thanks. Due to the format I've chosen its going to go over 8k words but from chatting to others on same course last night I think as long as its under 16k words in total it should be acceptable.

I've gone back over it and part of it is covering ground that I should have covered in a previous essay so 3k words of that is covering a historical aspect I should have covered before - phew!

Been looking ahead at my notes and I've got a whole swaithe of stuff where I can 'batch comment' on some of the individual bits rather than having to comment line by line.

Double the word limit is going to be okay?

Just about I reckon. General opinion amongst the class seems to be that I've picked a particular essay layout and plan that needs more than 8k and that will be accepted because of this. I'm still going to have to edit the repetitions though as I've noticed I have got 'favourite phrases'.

Tbh I'd be tempted to check with a course tutor or in any essay-writing guidelines you may have been given how far over the word limit is acceptable. Certainly, on the courses I've done (different institution, different discipline, of course) more than 10% over the limit has been frowned on...

Yep - we've got strict rules for word limits, with mark penalties for % under or over.

I was told by my tutor when I did the first essay that 8k words is average some do slightly more some do slightly less. I'm wondering just how far I can stretch the 'slightly more' bit.
