Police have raided 40 premises (@/Leftist/autonomist) across Germany on the flimsiest basis - that they were looking for a terror network which will be sabotaging the G8. A London demo has been organised to show that we won't be intimidated by police repression;

"The only point of these searches is to criminalize and disrupt the protests against the G-8," the Anti-Fascist Leftists of Berlin said. "The accusation that terrorists would coordinate their movements through a leftist-run Internet server is ridiculous."

Stating the obvious: This will provoke much anger inside Germany's left wing Autonomen scene. The authorities references to Genoa won't go down well either - as it seems to have been the police who caused much of the violence there. All in all this is not a good sign of things to come because it implies that the authorities will behave very heavy handedly.

Wouldn't it be better for the demo to be in, well, Germany ?

No doubt there will be protests about this in Germany.

Officials from the german GreenParty and the LeftParty have protested against the raids.

Meanwhile the cops have said they will not approve the planned demonstration in the town where the G8 leaders will be meeting.

Its nice to see people doing action - always far better than endless (and sometimes stupid debates) discussions. Also its nice to see some anarchists, autonomists, leftists with a bit of spine for a change. A lot of the British left just ain't got a clue about protest and actions...

Germany certainly has some of the more 'active' autonomists. Sadly this is partly because the police over there can be rather brutal.
