It's just that I remember being a teenage reader of the weekly music press from about 1974 on, and Pursey contradicted himself about his roots, his take on punk and his musical tastes just about every time Sounds, NME or Melody Maker interviewed him. He came across as a bit of a chancer, although that didn't stop me going to several Sham gigs. :D.

A BIT of a chancer....!?

Mind you, That's life has to be one of the most fun and funny punk albums of the era?

Back at the beginning of the Millennium I was working on the (abortive) Malcolm McLaren for Mayor campaign. One morning there was only me and Alan McGee in the office. The phone rang. It was the Standard. Jimmy Pursey had just announced his support for Ken Livingstone and did we have any comment. Without prompting Al and I sang down the phone "Hurry up 'Arry, come on, we're all going down the pub."

Which I thought rather covered Jimmy Pursey's punk credentials just as effectively as it showed how much we were concerned about his opinion.
