African Nations Cup 2010

It's still all to play for.
At the moment Angola and Mali go through but that can all change.
If Algeria win Angola, the hosts could go out.

Of course it was. Any sensible manager would reduce exposure to African players leaving for the daft tournament every 2 years.

Like say Chelsea or Barcelona...you know club sides that have actually won some silverware in recent years ;)

Some of the 'defending' in the tournament is hysterical but it's still been better than your average Euro and many World Cups.

Poor first half.
Zambia winning in the other match.
Cameroon going home if it stays like this.
It's got to get better in the second half.
I think it will kick off and there will be at least one red card.

(Song took a hefty knock but he seems ok.)

the standard in this tournament is laughable. The referees don't look like theyve actually ever officiated in any match beyond 7 year olds - the keeping and defending are both also appalling.

Is why I'm staying clear of this Mickey Mouse, corrupt tournament.

Given the laughable refereeing of the last two premier league matches I watched, Liverpool v Spurs, and Arsenal v Bolton, I'd say half the refs at the ANC are no worse than at least Howard Webb and Alan Wiley. Coulibaly, the Malian ref, is usually excellent. Gets most decisions right, always in complete control without having to be whistle happy, and prepared to give decisions that don't suit the big teams. The last being the reason he's better than pretty much anyone on the current premiership list.

Keepers have been patchy, but El Haidary, Mweene, Ovono, and Kingson have mostly looked classy, apart from Mweene's howler against Cameroon. The defending is also variable in quality, but Egypt's have largely been excellent. Malawi and Zambia's defences are both pretty good, but somewhat short of height. There's not much they can do about that.

It's not the best ANC I've ever seen, but it's still more fun than most European Championships.

it's more fun if you like watching goalkeepers that can't catch and defenders that can't defend, linesmen that don't know the offside rule and teams made up of 6 decent players and 6 pub players - not to mention referees that really don't seem to have a clue.

You realise, when watching this, that African football has only improved a little bit across the whole continent in 40 years.
