How many times have you been to Africa

A couple of times to Morocco (which is great imo) and a longer trip in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia. I'd really recommend Ethiopia as a destination to anyone who doesn't mind roughing it a bit. In Kenya there seemed to be a lot of pent-up aggression and ethnic intolerance tbh - I didn't enjoy it so much.

And a shallow observation perhaps, but the food across most of east africa is not a diet you'd choose if you didn't live there (or even if you did, come to think of it, since choice isn't the prevailing concern). Ethiopian food rocks though

Yeah, it might seem like that's a judgment I reached in light of the latest developments, but it really isn't. It's what I thought when I was there, so the recent news didn't come as much of a surprise really :(

Nice to see fela fan has his usual pair of rose-tinted spectacles on *

*those are black-tinted spectacles but you get the idea

Spent a couple of months going around Kenya & Tanzania in the early '90s - hope to visit Ghana someday, as well as South Africa/Botswana/Namibia.

I got tear gassed in Kenya. I was also there just after the Embassy got blown up, to repair all the kit of ours that got blown across the bloody room (was in the building opposite)

Loads of mad shit in loads of countries but I love the place :)

I wasnt being facetious, I promise :)I remember your thread/ travel diary from 2/3 years ago. I had a rueful smile on my face, kind of saluting your foresight really.

Been to Morocco, Libya, Mali and Nigeria. Next trip will be going back there, defintely. It's a shame that so many of the countries are messed up.

I want to see Namibia. I once met a Rabbi from Windhoek (sounds like the first line of a limerick) and he inviited me over, but I went to Russia instead. big mistake.

You should go ...Tanzania is just amazing..it has Kiliminjaro, the Serrengeti, ngorogoro crater and Zanzibar....to name just a few of the highlights..!

....ooh and spices and strange fruits ! :)

as long as I wouldn't have to climb it!

Have been twice both times to North Africa. First time to Egypt which was spectacular and the second time to Morocco which was less impressive.

I lived in both Kenya and South Africa as a child and my Dad lived in Morocco so I spent a few holidays there as well. :)

21 countries (some several times) - Morocco, Egypt, Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Burkina, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, CAR, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zim, Zambia, Botswana, SA.

Also some unofficial trips into DRC, Gabon, Somalia & Liberia.

Do I win?

We lived in Ghana and Tanzania when I was growing up. I have fond memories of both places but Tanzania was particularly special as we often went to the Serengeti - an amazing experience for anyone but particularly incredible if you're a kid

Morocco and Egypt (picked wrong option on poll :o ). Morocco was a mix of good and bad, but certainly exotic. Egypt was fantastic, but it was the antiquities that grabbed me, though the people there are marvellous.

Not tried 'black' Africa yet, while I'd like to, I'm much more an Asia person.

Hey why don't you give your sniping a rest man? Or at the least restrict your negative comments about me to the politics forum where it can be expected. It's getting quite weary to read your judgments about me, for no greater crime than me writing up what i find to be the case in this world.

Have you not yet worked out how limited a context can be portrayed when writing compared to speaking, especially in a format of communication such as this one? So all your sniping about me is based on extremely limited knowledge on your part about me.

It's weary for me being at the end of your negative judgments, don't you get weary wallowing in all the negativity? You're in the fucking travel column here man, a place that is supposed to be positive, to reflect one of life's great opportunities: to go see other people and cultures and their lives. Instead you choose to judge from your throne all the time.

Give it a fucking rest.
