Affordable and long-wearing shoes/boots

I wear them all the time. I've just had a pair resoled for the second time. They must be getting on for 10 years old and the uppers are still immaculate. And they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever had. Not cheap (currently about £125 - they were £85 when I bought mine) but worth it.

so how do you got about getting shoes resoled?

My Nike Jordan's I get at least 18 months from, raving in warehouses n shit in em too. They usually only get replaced for aesthetic reasons. What do you get up to that you wreck your footwear so easily??
thats an interesting question - I hate Nike with a passion what with the 25c paid to the person who makes them, £90 price tag, and then 3 months wearing before they fall apart, all with a Just Do It tag on top. The bit that affects me directly is the paying big money and being left with no shoe.

I do have big feet (11s), but I also only ever have one pair of shoes on the go (tho i do now have a pair of trainers that I only use for the gym - so very occasionally ;) ), so maybe thats a factor? I do move around a lot, walk a lot, dance, do occasional physical work... I dont know... its annoying tbh

where did you pick those up?

Endicotts in Exeter. Sadly they're not in stock any longer.

There are eBay sellers knocking them out for about £25, but I'd counsel against buying this particular model online because you need to size down, in my case a whole size and return postage could prove costly.

Nice boots, but I'm struggling to appreciate your lacing style -is they're even a pattern? It seems almost random! :D

Heh, I replaced the original contrasting light brown leather laces with waxed cotton in the same colour as the boot. It merges more uniformly which is why you can't work out the lacing pattern, and waxed cotton discourages slippage through the brass eyelets. It's called a 'Straight European' or ladder lacing technique. It's straight across on the outside and diagonally crossed inside. Aesthetically it looks untidy as you've noticed but it's very secure. I learned the system when I worked in mountain rescue because you can easily cut through the upper laces to remove the boot from an injured foot. It's something I picked up many years ago before speed hooks became prevalent.

so how do you got about getting shoes resoled?
Just go into the local shoe repair shop and ask for new soles and heels. Get a price first - some can be quite expensive. The first I tried wanted £40, but I found one place (not in London) who were £22. And not all do 'commando style' soles.

well i feel like im about to join the adult world with the boots and resole thing. though ive just bought another pair of skate shoes. but i will do it sooner than later

There's one in Peckham too, on Rye Lane. I keep meaning to get down there to see if they have any Wallabees

No Wallabees, mate. I was there today thanks to your tip.

I’ve had my eye on these sandals for the last two summer seasons. This particular model never get reduced in the sales and they’re pug ugly, but importantly they have protected toes and a full back securing the heel with a Velcro fastening. I detest open toed sandals.

In the past I’ve tried them on and my usual size has been too large. Got this pair in Peckham, half a size smaller, perfect fit and half the price. Bargain.

A rugged, durable sandal that’s not too dressy and will stand a good walk with the dog during the summer. Job done. Thank you.

Cheers, I saw this as I was going out the door on Saturday and as I was passing through the West end on the way to norf London I stopped at the Clarks store on Regent Street. Got my self some Wallabees in there, not cheap but having wanted a pair for years it was time to treat myself. Love'em

Glad you posted that mate. I saw your earlier post and thought 'Ooh they look like the sort of thing I'm after for Summer'. Had got as far as watching a pair on Ebay and everything.

the brown sole trim was attached to the material upper with glue as far as i could tell - if id skated in them they'd have lasted a week!

i didnt post a pic of the other one but they both fell apart in the same place same way

gutted tbh - they were quite comfortable

Oh fuck, I wish I hadn't seen them though. I really do not have 125 quid spare right now.

im going to try and return my new boots - they're too smart - when i look down and see them poking out of my jeans i feel like jeremy clarkson - im not ready!
i fear ive scuffed them too much though

so i managed to return my scuffed clarkes back! and instead ive bought a pair of merrel boots - £80 odd quid on the merrel website but £50 here

i like them - super comfy, very very solid, the design is pretty good - they look ever so slightly plasticy in real life but with a bit of wear i think theyll look better - anyhow, im happy with them, and look sort of smartish with jeans

Just to update* that those Merrell boots i bought for £50 in post above are going super strong - no sign of any wear and tear at all and comfortable...to boot. Can recommend...

* the suspense is finally over!
