advice : thinking of buying a rig

Bear in mind active cabs (especially the subs) can often be pretty heavy due to having the amps inside them, so think about where you're going to be using the rig, how it will be transported and how many pairs of hands you're likely to have setting it all up.

Swings and roundabouts though, isn't it? If you go with passive set up, what you save in cab weight you gain in more leads and a separate flightcased amp.

I have no problem lugging my active 15" cab around a venue, but if you're moving it bigger distances, then a trolley is an essential buy!

they often give away free wheel boards in tesco carparks, sometimes they even have seatbelt things for keeping your stuff in place.

if the OP wants to check a cheeky homebrew rig we're out for free on the 18th. :)

Separate amp yeah, but you actually use less leads with passive systems as you don't have to run power to each speaker. Passive cabs are a lot easier to use outdoors because of this as well.
