Adventurous breakfasts

Try french toast.

Butter both sides, dunk in egg, fry/flip/fry.

Absolutely delicious with either maple syrup or brown sugar.

Yet I still only eat toast and cereal for breakfast, which is (I'm told) the most important meal of the day. An occasional fry-up over the weekend if the hangover permits, but nothing more interesting.

Help me fix it.

try indian halva puri

A quick check on wikipedia suggests it's Pakistani, but sounds pretty damn good:

"Halva Puri Cholay or Halva Puri for short which consists of two separate dishes, Halva, a sweet made from semolina, and Aloo Cholay, a spicy chick-pea and potato curry eaten with Puri, a small circular deep-fried flat bread."

I stand corrected, the missus always asks if I want rarebit and comes in with various eggs, bread and cheese permutations that I lose track of.

We made eggs benedict the other day, all the butter we had in the house went into it so I won't be doing that again with my current waistline.

fucking hell look how nice it looks!

No, that's (glorified) cheese on toast.
What you've just suggested is eggy bread. French toast is very thin, very dry toast.
Nah, french toast is eggy bread. The thin dry toast is melba toast - made by toasting a normal slice on both sides, cutting off the crusts, splitting the bread in half flatways to make two very thin slices, and then toasting the in-sides.

Griddled asparagus on sourdough with poached egg.

Brioche dipped in and fried in creme anglaise with raspberries.

Thick pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.

Fresh muffins and coffee.

If you ever find yourself in my company at breakfast time (:hmm:) you may well be served one of the above.
If I'm lucky enough to find myself in your company at breakfast time, I'll be prepared to overlook the fact that you called custard Creme Anglais. :p

Kedgereeeee!

Or berries with creme fraiche or yoghurt, with oats and honey.

Baked eggs, of course. :D

Ooh I love Kedgeree but I never get to cook it.

Its a dish that really needs a full table of people to eat it with you and I never have that many people, that would eat it, for breakfast.

They would think that I was trying to punish them by not doing the usual organic free range bangers and eggs. :(

This is what I've got this all planned out for brekkie this morning. Just gotta wait for the others to get out of bed!!!!
What exactly is that? I see eggs and ham, some sort of sausage, some sort of fried or roasted potato cubes, some sort of toast, but what's the brown stuff in teh ramekin?

Maple syrup. And the toast is eggy bread (aka french toast).

Is that eggs and ham? Looks like coleslaw. :hmm:

Lookin good there herbsman!

Milly Molly thank you so much. This has now become my breakfast of choice, i reckon i've mastered it! Fry up some bits of bacon while you are doing the spinach (frozen much easier) and add crispy bacon bits on top ... get in. Much better than a fry up, no messing up timings and and hardly a pan to wash.

I loves it, me.

Bacon & fried pancakes with leeks done in jerk spices or a spicy tomato & chilli sauce is another occasional treat.

One of my favorite "adventurous" breakfasts is plantation shortcake:

a 4-inch square of cornbread topped with a slices of ham or cooked chicken breast and a poached egg, all smothered in a Cajun-spiced cheese sauce.

Looks like maple syrup :D

French toast/eggy bread is amazing XD and especially with bacon and maple syrup (I tried this when I couldn't be bothered to make the thick, fluffy American pancakes) - but I've never heard of buttering the bread first o_O. How odd!

It's like when people put butter in scrambled eggs  I've never done that before. I always microwave it too, which has garnered me some odd looks. No idea why. It only takes two minutes.
