Admit it You were Wrong oh so Wrong

Arcade Fire. Couldn't see why there was so much fuss about them and ended up buying the Deluxe version of Neon Bible just a few weeks ago :o

My mum's a genius at these:

'Like a Virgin? Like a tart more like. She won't be around for long', on Madonna

'All it is is shouting, no real singing. Won't be around next year', on hip-hop (hearing PE at the World Music Awards in Switzerland performing 'Don't Believe the Hype'...)

I like your mum already :)

I was determined to hate them when I first heard of them; just because they were the new darlings of the indie-boy crowd that has endorsed such a vast amount of crap in past few years. I was sucked in by their taste for the apocalyptic and their cunning deployment of mandolins and proper strings though. And playing the definitive end-of-the-world song 'five years' with David Bowie clinched it for me

What have you got so wrong you need to shout it to the Urban Massive?

i used to loathe Morrissey, and now i love him (well not strictly him, more his lyrics. i still think he might be just a wee bit pretentious and up himself....)

Yeah me too! What does she think of LCD Soundsystem :D

Ha ha...no idea, I don't think she's heard of them...she's well into her jungle at the moment...

BTW, beers soon? Mebbe week after next? Will PM ya...

Was offered a ticket to see Stevie Wonder by my older brother. My then 20 year old gothic self told my brother to fuck off

Also turned down a ticket for the Pixies gig at Crystal Palace Bowl, to go on a date instead ! AAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!!

I used to revere Morrissey (and the Smiths) but now think he's a lyrical genius that comes put with somewhat dodgy erm ... 'opinions' ... at times

That's as far as I go in dissing a major icon! :o ;)

Cos the lyrics (especially) and music still rock. See you at the rematch foo? :p

oh his opinions. well i'm kind of new to them, but apparently they've always been, erm......contraversal? :D

i had a stupid stubborn childish dislike of him, borne out of years of being told i should  like him by various close people. i found me own way in the end :D:cool:

oh and yep. i wil be at the rematch!

actually. it was also his voice.

for years, the tremulousness* of it got on my tits. i don't mind it now though.

*is that a word? :D

Yeah, they're really not hard to dislike: have a certain aura of smugness and superiority, the indie crowd are all over them like photographers on Britneys' underpants and aren't quite your average 4-piece band.
Took me almost an year and someone very dear to me telling me to focus just on the music and the lyrics and forget about the rest to appreciate them.

Going to see the Ramones and the Damned double header at Brixton Academy and deciding to stay in the bar drinking with a girl i met there instead of seeing the gig

Being quite into Oasis for about a year :o :o

I walked off a few minutes after they came onto the main stage at pilton.
There was no way I was going to stand for an hour in the pissing rain with mud up to my knees just to hear wonderwall.
I did the same when Macca came on and started singing 'Jet'

I have always kind of regretted both of those things though.

Saw The White Stripes at the Forum in 2001.

I thought they were fantastic.
but I also thought - 'they're a garage band. they'll never reach a big audience, they're only playing a venue this big 'cos of the hype' :D

turns out joe public loves the blues based garage punk after all

girls aloud.

at first i was a silly snob, and thought that some group from a TV show coudln't be any good. the missus kept saying "sound of the underground" was ace - "it's drum and bass! girls aloud are drum and bass!" to which i told her she was wrong. but i didn't really know - to be hoenst, i hadn't even heard SOTU all the way through, so how would i know? i tried to ignore them/dislike them until i saw them perfomr "jump" (their 4th single) on TV (royal avriet performance or something) and i was hooked. and that was that - no looking back. i realised what a fool i had been, and since then make a point of regularly chastising myself whilst listening to their music and watching their videos. dressed as them. all.

Ah, so chastising is the new name for it then :hmm:?

I caught a GA Sunday thing on E4 a couple of weeks ago...they haven't been well served by their videos have they? I mean I know that decent pop vids from pop bands are pretty rare, but considering how successful (and fit) they are, I thought they could have better promos...

I *heart* GA BTW...pop music as it's supposed to be...

Not being arsed to see The Prodigy in Guildford just after Jilted Generation came out was a mistake. As was going to see them in Brixton a couple of years ago.

Got the Johnny Cash/Eat Static call wrong at Glastonbury, thinking back..
