Adele - songs, discussion

If it wasn't for Amy Winehouse, she'd be more interesting.

But if it wasn't for Amy Winehouse, we'd probably not have heard of her at all, so.......

*shrugs*

and I'm not sure how many more bluesy retro chanteuses we need right now

Bluesy-retro in the Amy Winehouse style is probably preferable to the warbly vocal gymnastics (that Whitney and Maria ushered in) that have dominated the vocal stylings of "divas" in recent decades.

She needs to pull herself together. She sounds like sick. Why can't she be more like Regina Spektor or Leslie Feist (who are a right pair of saucettes to boot).

Cos she's singing someone elses tunes unlike Regina, Dawn landes or the talented Americans around.

Adele would make a decent cruise ship singer.

You could say that about loads of others who reach number one.

I still think Adele is brilliant. And she will get better.

Plus she's considerably richer than you now!:p

I think she's better than Amy Winehouse, but Chasing Pavements is certainly starting to grate a little.

Really? Based on 1 hit single.
It's a nice enough song, bit dull though. She does have a really good voice but nowhere near as good as Amy Winehouse.

and? quoting sales figures is just pointless, it tells you nothing about whether something's good, or bad

She's a mildly competent singer with mostly mediocre material

Plus she's considerably richer than you now!:p

Probably, but not as rich as you think. Money's not that good at first unless you write your own material

I think I just prefer what I've heard of Adele's voice so far. I know it's based on one song, but I enjoy listening to her way of singing a bit more.

She's probably a better technical singer than Winehouse, but to a certain extent both leave me cold.

I like Winehouse, enjoyed her set at Glasto, but there's a danger of the Emperor's new clothes really. Her voice has been ropey in far too many live performances (unsurprisingly) and her sets are all one paced and a bit samey imo. Loses my interest, at least, in the middle of her set - you get more joy, imo, for guessing what state she'll turn up in.

You don't even get that joy with Adele. Mature, proficient and a bit anodyne.

i heard that pavement song all the way through for the first time at the weekend.

i can't remember how it goes at all.

only heard the cd tracks once..sure its all very stage school.
but some of of the quieter tracks(the production at least) remind me of early 60s caberet singer julie london who i like alot.

so far i prefer duffy but havent heard all the tracks yet..
