On acre lane... opposite the Tesco car park... what used to be the snooker hall... it's set to become a member's restaurant/piano bar.

Isn't that the old Fridge Gallery? That's been under construction for a little while now, with an impressive white grand piano to look at from the bus.

I'm hoping the old snooker hall's still there, albeit a little further up the road.

Piano Bar! WTF? ROFL!

I thought piano bars were the sort of thing you had in Kensington or Cheltenham and inhabited by white tops

Why would you think it was a good idea for Brixton? Arf!

The members bit seems to be the upstairs section with the joanna in it.
It looks shit. Like an estate agents, aptly enough.

What is all this members bar bullshit
Are they hoping to tap into some blingtastic cash fountain or something? Cause if Harlem's any example then it obviously isn't or doesn't want to be there.

that's what I said when I saw it... gimme an easy going friendly place over a wanky member's bar anytime.

odd reply from Acres

I emailed to ask how to become a member.... and got this very confusing jumbled reply... I understand that you need to be a member to get upstairs but does it mean that members are not allowed downstairs where there is another bar?
Very odd email....

"We have the Gallery Members lounge upstairs for guest who will be invited to become members by the membership committee.

However guests are not invited to use the bar and restaurant on the ground floor and the bar manager will then make the decision of extending an invitation for membership in the lounge upstairs.

Regards,

Carol Phillips

They have a website http://www.acres.uk.com which is about as interesting as this place looks. They had a swanky opening thang about a month back. I remember staggering home pissed one night and passing all these people in DJs and ballgowns looking very out of place ...

Indeed, and the phone number on it is crap too. If they're going to plaster a website address across the front of the building they may as well put something interesting online.
