Accepting some of my wages cash in hand

Don't see how you can be exempt from minimum wage and breaks.

If you live-in, minimum wage doesn't apply. Domestic servants are specifically excluded from breaks during work and between shifts as I understand it. Nannies (and housekeepers etc) work 10-12 hour days with no break, and often less than 11 hours between shifts too.

ETA - the exemption from breaks applies whether you live in or out I think. You do get minimum wage if you live out though.

Minimum wage does apply, but the employer can offset some of the accommodation http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/TheNationalMinimumWage/DG_175108

Oh right, domestic servant :( Yeah, that'd apply whether you live in or not.

Nothing much to add really, apart from don't bank the cash.
Good point. That's your money for clothes shopping and drinking, not paying essential bills. I don't suppose HMRC make a habit of totting up the average person's standing orders and comparing them with wage packets, but you don't want them to be able to (which they could, quite easily, if they chose to) and leave you with an awkward explanation for why you're making payments on the BMW that amount to twice your weekly (declared) wages :)

It's untraceable cash. The world and his wife does it, and has done it since the invention of money. Welcome to the Black Economy. Chill.

experience would suggest you're safe enough if you keep this very quiet (like don't tell anyone, nor should she).

however, what i would be slightly guarded about also is that if this person is prepared to act in an unscrupulous manner in her employ of you, she may also be as unscrupulous in how she pays you, when she pays you and how she treats you, precisely because she'll be aware of the fact that you're both operating outside of standard legal employment. so watch your back if you do decide to go ahead.

Yeah, that is something to consider. Though tbh you have to watch your back with all of them, however they pay you :hmm:

It's ok, she has the kids as collateral ;)
