I still like both era's of Van Halen. (I don't count Cherone!)Nah man. Van Halen.
Alright i'm being a bit 'fake outrage'! My two biggest heroes are Noam Chomsky (for changing my politics) and Roth (for getting me into martial arts and travelling off the beaten track). I do like a lot of Hagar period Van Halen though (the version of Jump on Live... is phenomenal). Just as an aside the friends i've kept from school (30 years) all call Roth's biography Crazy From the Heat 'The Bible' as its full of instructional lessons for living life well. Hagar's a better singer but really...I still like both era's of Van Halen. (I don't count Cherone!)
Mind you, I'll willingly say this - when EVH put the guitar down at the end of the 5150 tour, and didn't play it for a year in 1987 so he could concentrate of learning keyboards / piano.... man, that was a waste. OU812 would really have benefited from a lot more guitar. "For unlawful" was a far better album, because he picked up the guitar again - but the album title is inexcusable.
Watching Live Without a Net you can clearly see that Hagar fits in with the chemistry of the band . They didn't want to get a clone of Roth, and who can blame them?

5150's a great album. OU812 is respectable. But compared to the first one or Fair Warning?Although I liked 5150, Dave Lee Roth was definitely my favourite Van Halen frontman....Mr Showbiz himself
I preferred Sammy with Montrose...Bad motor scooter always guarantees to get me shaking my bottom!![]()
I've time for ACDC. Both eras. I wouldn't spend money going to see them now though.
Brian - exited, and I blame Angus for that. A disgraceful way to handle it.
Angus - is all that remains.
What's the story here then?
Johnson was told not to perform or risk losing his hearing entirely. The tour was already booked so Angus drafted in Axl to fill in. There hasn't been any indication Brian won't return for studio recordings
sigh. RIP Bon!managementIf you think brian is ever coming back, I must strongly disagree. As for carrying on with Axl - its not AC/DC. They should have just cancelled the rest of the tour with immediate effect, rather than pissing on their legacy. They had a different choice, but he chose instead to carry on and let the money talk.
Tour insurance would covered a tour cancellation for health reasons
Angus said "You can't call an album Rock Or Bust and then Bust". You can, Angus. Its just his bloody mindedness, greed and pride that meant it carried on. Cliff knew it was no way to continue, thats why he quit.
its always been Angus and Malcolm running the ship, and that has abundantly clear from every biography of them I've ever read. With Malcolm not involved anymore, and Angus being the sole member still in the band now from the tour before last, who else is making the decisions?
