I think i'll just go for a bit of a lie down.
Feel free. Bon Scott died, the band carried on, and guess what? They didn't ask for your permission to do so.
Not trying to be confrontational here, what I'm trying to say is that the continued eulogisation of Bon Scott as if he was the only thing good that ever happened to AC/DC, isn't a healthy state of mine. lets all hark back to the days of 38 years ago, and hope the band stays forever stuck frozen in time?
The idea that the band is worthless without him is... quite frankly, one-sided at best, and not only narrow minded and unfair, but again - just because Bon died, doesn't mean everything they did after was worthless either. There's some great stuff on Flick Of The Switch, Razor's Edge is a solid classic (with one horrible stinker), Ball Breakers main problem is Rick Rubin (who was producing three albums at same time - he was simultaneously working with Johnny Cash & RHCP I think), and "Black Ice" is a solid, great 10 track album (NB:IO know black ice has fifteen songs on it. Had they taken off five songs, it would ten times better as an album).
Their hit rate of classics may have been consistent with Bon, but you can say the same of any band in their early years. The same thing exists with Kiss - the make up years are seen as being beyond criticism, whereas post-make up might as well not exist. Same thing applies. Like I say, also see VH.
All these three bands have in common is that they changed personnel and their sound changed /evolved in the process, and didn't remain stuck in amber forever like many fans might like.
Nostalgic revisionism, thats what it is. Nothing more.
