Absolute beginners guide to e bay?

I think I have sold them on Gumtree, but he wants invoicing by paypal, how does that work?

Log into PayPal, sign up first if needed, click on the request money tab. From there you can simply request an amount from the buyer or create a full invoice to be sent to the buyer. You will need their email address.

Once the buyer gets the request for payment or the invoice they can pay it easily via PayPal.

Do you have a PayPal account? I can't see anyone paying by any other method these days, since PayPal has all the buyer protection as part of it. People may be willing to pay cash if collecting the item, but for posting stuff it's always PayPal

I don't sell anything heavy or valuable on ebay unless its buyer collect only. Dramatically diminishes scamsters. Obviously that works better in cities than in rural places but I just CBA with hassle with postage and scamming any more.

I know contact outside E Bay for sellers/buyers is not allowed under E Bay rules, but is it ok to ask if the seller of an item that has not sold could inform someone if they relist the item or is that contravening the rules and how robustly are they policed.

I think if potential buyer has item X in their "watch" list, then if the item is relisted, Ebay sends an email to everyone who was watching the item saying "an item you were watching has been relisted - click here and go and look at it".

It does. It also shows up as "relisted" in your watch list.
