AA or RAC?

However, I know I wouldn't pay £12.95 for a current account, or indeed for mobile phone insurance. Two months' premiums at that rate would get me a new phone! :D

Two months?? My last phone was one months premium :D

AA used to be a bit useless north of the border, RAC were fine til they put their prices up and I stopped getting breakdown cover. I did also get a VW around that time.

I've been with the AA about 10 years, I joined shortly before they demutualised, so the first 5 years were effectively free as i got a cheque for £275 a few months after I joined

have used them on occasion, last time was a overheating problem on a sunday, as I was on my way to Walthamstow dump :(

they have been pretty good ime

I used to be with Greenflag and they were fine (using local contractors, all of whom were 100% OK).

I had a dalliance with the AA but left as I got a great deal with RAC through my insurer.

I only used the AA once and they lied to me, heavily suggesting that I needed a new battery that they could help me out with (I had left my side lights on whilst the car was parked at the airport) - utter bollox.

I've used the RAC twice and on both occasions was impressed with the patrolman's knowledge and people skills.

Their car inspection service is also superb - last time I used it I got a hugely detailed report that helped me to knock a grand off the car I was buying.

So, RAC all the way for me.....

RAC -- Have used them 3 times since joined in last september. Brilliant service and really skilled men (as well as being very nice)! Solved the problem right away which otherwise would have cost me hundreds in a garage.

I definitely recommend people RAC. You get value for money.

I would like to join the AA for their get-you-home service. I don't have a car though. Would they accept a made-up registration number to let me be a member? Do you think that they would believe me if I emerged from a pub after the last bus and tube had gone and called them up telling them that my car was broken down parked around the corner? Could I persuade them to just take me home and not worry about the non-existent car? If I could work that scam the annual fee would be cheaper than getting taxis for journeys of about 20 miles late at night.
