A suggestion to change the name of this forum to Britain and Ireland

yes but at the moment the 'residents of cork and dublin' are sandwiched between madagascar, pakistan and pimped out arizona teenagers!

ireland has more in common with great britain than any other country

Who still says 'great britain' though. I prefer UK because again, it's multi-national.

I think the forum name should be legalistic, not emotive.

The UK and Ireland denotes two separate states.

Britain is not the name of any state neither is Great Britain.

Fullyplumped's point about the Scotland forum is fair, although the Wales/Cymru forum regularly has solid political threads. Most of the time the Welshies talk about politics in here it's ignored, not out of nastiness or ignorance but because most people aren't aware of what happens in Wales.

Why not just keep it in World politics and let ''Ireland'' or ''Eire'' or ''Southern Ireland'' in the thread title be the clue to the thread being about Ireland?

Works for me.

Works for me.

Or, why not fuck right off?

Getting what we're on about right first would be a good start.

isnt it fair that say for example-

Scotland/Alba <- is a forum

Wales/Cymru <- is a forum

Ireland <- should be a forum

isnt it just fair at the end of the day?

In that you're a pointless hippy who should choke on the lama's puffin.

Im not sure what this 'being fair' stuff s all about, but new forums are generally created when there's a demonstrable need for them or if they make sense from a modding point of view.

In ten years or so of running this board I don't think anyone's ever asked for an 'Ireland' forum and the politics sections have hardly been over run with Irish matters, so I'm not really feeling the need.

If it kicks off big time in the NI maybe that would change but right now I can't see any reason for things to change.

Ok. That's perfectly reasonable.

I was just curious really more than anything to be honest.

Still though, it's always good to see urban democracy in action.

You're a hell of a editor, we're right lucky little fuckers to have you tbh. SO, thank you.

Although if we ever discuss the politics of the Isle of Man that might have implications, they aren't part of the UK or Ireland!

You're god damn right we're not. I propose "Isle of Man, Ireland and Britain Forum", that'll keep everyone happy.

Everyone important.

:hmm:

Obviously it does but Ireland is a nation (legally and objectively), Britain is not.

You can just say these things without blinking can't you?

Ireland and Britain share many of the same attributes in terms of nationality. Both have disputed boundaries, a history of intermigration and colonisation and there are areas within each that want to be independent.

The notion that Ireland has always been an undivided nation are pure nonsense.

I'm having a flashback!

"Britain" is an amalgam of three countries and a bit of another.

"Britain" is an island, which currently, when combined with some of the inshore and outlying islands, and chunk of the neihbouring large island constitute the nation of the United Kingdom. Within this nation there are 4 areas in which there are people for historical, cultural and political reasons, want their areas to become full nations outside the union.

Archipelago.

Great Britain is the archipeligo - surrounding the island of Britain.

And yes I do realise that historically the Great was to distinguish it from Brittainy. I don't believe that disctinction is still applied nor in any way necessary.
