A short classical piece expressing joy

Well of course, but I would have thought the OP would have PoS on his list already. In fact I would be very disappointed if he didn't . . .

"Zadok the Priest" by Handel is good stirring stuff:

or

The arrival of the Queen of Sheba is cool as well:

(Can't knock a bit of Handel - got married to him myself - Toccata and Fugue in Dmin

Congratulations! How exciting! Hurrah! :)

Thanks. That's quite a list. (I think I found that list a few months ago but I lost it, and my notes, so I'm more than grateful to see it again!)

Too many to go through one by one, but there's a few worth a shout there (Stanley, for instance) and I'll work my way through the ones I don't know!

For entertainment, you can hear the Vivaldi being mangled .

Telemann's Concerto for Trumpet and two Oboes sounds worth a go too.

First movement of Mozart's bassoon concerto? That's very jolly, but too long, I suppose.

Various folky dances and similar by Bartok and Slavic nationalist sorts of composers could yield some results - they're often in very short movements, and there's some very bouncy stuff there.

We went with Bach's trumpet Voluntary. Admittedly, that was heavily influenced by the fact that my friend was playing it for us, so we needed something appropriate for one trumpet. But it was absolutely perfect.

For the exit, he played another great piece of trumpet music whose name escapes me, but it also happens to be the theme used for Eurovision! It also worked perfectly.

The Mozart's perhaps a little parpy for my liking, though as I'm looking at a lot of trumpet stuff it's a little odd to say so. I'd really like to consider something choral as well (hence my interest in Pärt) but it's proving hard to find anything suitable that's both choral and secular.

I think the Bach may fail on the Jesus bit (also perhaps a little over-familiar).

Which Bach? Not the Voluntary -- we also had a civil ceremony and it passed without a murmur!

Donna, firstly many, many congratulations and I trust that a joint invite for all Urbanites is on its way..;)

Zadok the Priest - George Frederick Handel

I can't listen to stuff at work, unfortunately. I'll try to remember to identify it for you later.

It may already have been said, but just to point out the obvious -- Zadok the Priest most definitely falls foul of the "no religion" rule!

Okay, I've got that, so no religon and a piece expressing joy...Hmmm..

Mozart's "Musical Joke" you can both "gallop" down the aisle..:D

Anything by Katrina and the Waves. I've never known them to take a dogmatic position on religious issues.

Not too much rich food either or it could end in Trumpet Involuntary.
