Not sure what these cooling mats are, but I have mine on a lap tray if I'm not at a table an that helps to let it not overheat (and you can eat your tea in fron tof the telly on the tray too ).

Well I haven't used it much recently because the ac adaptor thing blew up.

Before that it used to turn itself off quite alot...what worries me is that it gets REALLLLLLY hot. And also I don't seem to be able to turn the hibernation thing on, so it never goes into hibernation. It just stays on. Bit weird.

It's a Pavillion dv4000. It doesn't look easy to open and clean.....I'll try and pop down to the local lappy topshop to see what they say.

Sorry, can't help, those are generic errors as far as I can see, back up your stuff onto a usb stick and if it keeps happening get one of your techie mates to have a look at it.

You might not have enough Ram in your pc, your Hard Drive might be having problems. You haven't stuck any strange floppies in it recently have you?
