A scary blue screen just flashed

Is it because I normally have my laptop on a pillow or duvet? Do you think? It's making it too snuggly?
Not sure what these cooling mats are, but I have mine on a lap tray if I'm not at a table an that helps to let it not overheat (and you can eat your tea in fron tof the telly on the tray too ;)).

Definitely sounds like the laptop's full of fluff and dust, preventing it from cooling properly. What's the exact model of laptop? It might be easy to open and clean. It might not, in which case you should find a computer shop to do it for you (not pcworld or dixons or any of those cunts mind)

A can of compressed air from a camera shop can be useful. They come with a thin plastic tube so you can jet the air into tight places.

Well I haven't used it much recently because the ac adaptor thing blew up.

Before that it used to turn itself off quite alot...what worries me is that it gets REALLLLLLY hot. And also I don't seem to be able to turn the hibernation thing on, so it never goes into hibernation. It just stays on. Bit weird.

this sounds very similar to my problem of laptop doom :hmm:

Why is Bosky calling me fat?:D

Fucking weirdo.

It's a Pavillion dv4000. It doesn't look easy to open and clean.....I'll try and pop down to the local lappy topshop to see what they say.

this thread=:D

I know. It's been fairly eventful for a bogstandard computerdoom thread. Flids and fatjibes:hmm:

You buy them in camera shops? I looked everywhere for a can of compressed air.

Everywhere.

Except a camera shop, obviously.

Ok, if you go to Control Panel->Administrative Tools and double-click on Event Viewer, then click on System on the right hand side, are there any entries with a red cross or yellow exclamation mark beside them?.

Don't you mean Windows SEXP?

LOL.
Yes. That is what I meant. I would've thought that was obvious.

Yes. That looks scary. What does that mean?:hmm:
You don't get these sort of issues with a macbook

I had an Ibook once. I got drunk and stood on the keyboard in highheels.

Double click on them, what do they say?

Those are the most recent 3. There are lots more though.

Don't worry about those, they're ok, are there any from around the time you crashed?. Look in the Application folder on the left too.

These ^^^ are from around the time the blue screen came.

Sorry, can't help, those are generic errors as far as I can see, back up your stuff onto a usb stick and if it keeps happening get one of your techie mates to have a look at it.

OR

You might not have enough Ram in your pc, your Hard Drive might be having problems. You haven't stuck any strange floppies in it recently have you?
