A scary blue screen just flashed

Is there plenty of space around it to allow for efficient air circulation?
Is it because I normally have my laptop on a pillow or duvet? Do you think? It's making it too snuggly?
No!

^ heatsink + fan (but that's from a pc)

That's mahoosive.

apology accepted. i just know how easy it is to say words like spaz, flid etc without realising how nasty they can be.

Well overheating certainly isn't helpful. I do the same and it seems to struggle more and more these days since getting wifi. :(

okay, i'm sure that's for another thread tbh. and there are people on here who use far worse and don't get picked up on it.

But I'm sorry to anyone who was offended by my use of the word 'flid'.

Anywhooooo, thanks to everyone, I've put lappy on a folder and he seems alot quieter and cooler. This could be the reason for the problems.

Yes, maybe.

If it is overheating, this is a common problem for some laptops. It happened with mine quite a lot. I think it was because one fan had broken, and it just could not cool down enough.

It would switch off whilst watching youtube videos for example, because it could not handle it.

If it is overheating, one solution might be to get a cooling mat to place it on.

There are loads of them here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=laptop+cooling&x=0&y=0

However, it might be something else, if it is bluescreen. It might be a good idea to delete everything and reinstall it again, if you can.

Mmmm I think this is it. It's gone all peaceful now like it is has had a nice cold drink 'ahhhhhh'.

It seems better though.

Yes! I don't know if it was during youtube but it definitely turned itself off if there were too many windows open.

The blue screen was scary though...I wouldn't even know how to uninstall and reinstall everything..I don't think I have the tools.

Don't worry about that for now. I never had to do that.

I think I know the problem.

I will PM you.

And what on earth is a heatsink?

You are just making things up now, to taunt electrogirl, aren't you?

Actually I think the flux capacitors might be, as we say in the business, fucked...

If it's the fan or any other heat dissipating device then a bit of a clean will probably do the trick. If that doesn't work, turn it off then turn it back on again.

maybe it is, but considering a lot of people do get pulled on here up on their use of ghey, spaz etc etc, i didn't think it too unusual to say something about a word i and a lot of other people find offensive. even if it was just a joke.

And how does one clean a laptop fan?

Look honestly, fine, I've said sorry. You can't tell me 'you can't use that word' though.

I'm sorry if you were offended. I will not use it in future if it offends people that much.

Weird ^^

EG - does it need updating? I ignored a load of updates on my lapper and wondered why it kept BSoDing
