A RW wing article that sums up the UK economy perfectly?

I'm right wing ish but I never unerstand why no government doesn't increase income tax at the very top levels - say on earnings over £150k per annum. Those people could afford a bit more. But tax rises always hit the average earner. Couple that with council tax and fuel increases and the Labout govt had had it in my view.

My house is empy all day long and I only turn the gas on to cook and heat the house in the evenings, weekends and for an hour in the morning. My gas bill last quarter was £220 and my electric £200.

They would need to restructure the income tax bands as everyone earning over 30k are lumped in together (I believe!!) I'm all for this, but of course you'll get the perpetual whine of *the rich can't be expected to pay tax they'll leave the country*

Whereas the poor, being shafted, have no such option.

Don't lump everybody in together, angel. I'd happily pay a higher rate of tax on an extra top band.

Of course, I'd want some assurance that the extra tax revenue was going towards things like welfare rather than waging pointless wars. Not particlarly keen to fork over extra money just so that those with a Napolean complex can play Commander.

A proper socialist government would just reply; "fine - leave the fucking country then. Good riddance. And we'll sequestrate your funds on the way out. In fact, we're doing that anyway".

Oh, you will when they eventually bring in fines for not using the correct bags, don't you worry.

And the mock-left will stand there smugly approving and telling us it's all for our own good. And that, anyway, we're not reeeaaallly poor compared to someone in Haiti or something.

you are a boring tedious troll with nothing to say arn't you

its a broken record

kabbes - sums up the real enemy you face - but hey, just let them keep pissing all over you and keep pointing the finger at your fantasy leftie

they would already have done it in advance if they had any sense :)

Kabbes, I wasn't suggesting everyone shared that view, just what the defenders of our current system say, when people say 'tax the rich'...

It's perplexing, instead of nationalising the top x companies we are propping up failures like northern rock and letting greedy businesses get big slices of government money.

A sort of corporate welfare.

Corporate welfare, indeed - but I suppose not perplexing to those making the decisions - they have swallowed the neo-libreral perspective hook, line and sinker :)
